A portable small heater is a movable device poweRED by mains electricity, designed to provide heat to a small, individual area. The UL1278 test report is a U.S. safety standard test for electric heaters, primarily evaluating the product’s electrical performance and safety. This test report certifies that the product has passed rigorous safety inspections, effectively preventing electrical failures, fire hazards, and other safety issues during use.

What is the UL1278 Standard?

The UL1278 standard mainly applies to portable electric heaters, including but not limited to convection, radiant, and fan-forced heaters, which generate heat through electric heating elements to raise the ambient temperature. These heaters are commonly used in homes, offices, and commercial settings to provide temporary or supplementary heating for localized spaces.

The Amazon U.S. marketplace requires that all small heaters be tested and comply with the following specific regulations or standards:

- Product: Small Heaters

- Regulation/Standard Requirement: ul 1278

Specific UL1278 Testing Items and Requirements:

1. Input Power Test: Evaluates whether the power consumption of the heater under normal operating conditions meets the design requirements.

2. Leakage Current Test: Measures the current that may leak to the casing or other accessible parts while the heater is in operation.

3. Dielectric Strength Test: Verifies whether the insulation system of the heater can maintain good insulation performance under high voltage.

4. Insulation Resistance Test: Tests the insulation resistance value of the heater to assess the quality of its insulation materials.

5. Heating-Related Tests: Includes normal heating tests and abnormal heating tests (such as overvoltage, fan blockage, tipping, etc.) to ensure the heater does not overheat under various conditions.

6. Durability Test: Assesses the performance stability and reliability of the heater over extended use.

7. Mechanical Performance Test: Includes stability tests to ensure that the heater remains stable during normal use or when subjected to certain external forces.

UL1278 Certification Process for Heaters:

1. Fill out the certification test application form.

2. Sign the contract, make the payment, and provide product samples.

3. The JJR laboratory in China arranges testing.

4. A draft report is issued upon passing the test.

5. The final report is confirmed and issued.
