Battery Certification Testing for TikTok, Amazon, TEMU, and eBay

TikTok

On May 17, 2024, TikTok Shop's official website released a regULation regarding the cross-border sale of electronic products with batteries: "Cross-Border Product Listing Rules (for Battery-PoweRED Products) (UK and Southeast Asia Cross-Border)".

The regulation clearly states that all sellers of electronic products with batteries on the TikTok Shop platform must strictly adhere to these new rules. They must ensure the accuracy and transparency of product information, thereby safeguarding consumers' right to be informed and to choose.

According to the new regulations, all electronic products with batteries listed on TikTok Shop must comply with the following requirements:

- Battery-Powered Products:

Specify the type of battery, whether the battery is included, and the typical battery life.

- Lithium Battery-Powered Products:

Indicate the battery capacity (e.g., 2000mAh), battery life when fully charged, and battery maintenance instructions.

- Special Products:

For products such as Bluetooth headphones, neck fans, and vacuum cleaners, specify battery usage under different settings and usage scenarios. For example, Bluetooth headphones should specify listening time and talk time per charge.

In addition, specific products like Bluetooth headphones, neck fans, and vacuum cleaners need to detail battery usage under different settings, such as listening time and talk time for Bluetooth headphones per charge, and battery life for neck fans at different wind speed settings.

Amazon

On April 18, 2024, Amazon's US site issued a new regulation regarding "consumer products containing button or coin batteries."

Effective immediately, merchants selling consumer products containing button or coin batteries on Amazon must provide valid compliance documentation to ensure they meet relevant regulations, or their products will be prohibited from being displayed. The specific requirements are as follows:

1. gcc certificate:

 A document where the seller self-declares that their product complies with the applicable consumer product safety rules.

2. ul4200a Certification:

 A test report obtained from an ISO17025 accredited laboratory that meets the ul4200A standard.

3. Product Packaging Image:

 The product packaging must include the product model, part or item number, and both the packaging and the product itself must have warning labels.

TEMU

Similarly, the TEMU platform requires products with built-in batteries to provide battery certification (compliant with IEC/en62133 or ul2054/ul1642 standards) and a temperature test report.

The platform mandates that sellers must provide relevant certifications and test reports before listing their products for sale.

eBay

In April 2023, eBay released a regulation on the "sale of button batteries on eBay UK."

This regulation requires that items containing button or coin batteries must comply with the relevant UK regulations (PAS 7055 safety requirements for button and coin batteries).
