In the global market environment, battery-powered audio and video products must obtain CE certification to enter the EU market or be listed on cross-border e-commerce platforms like TEMU and Amazon Europe. CE certification is not only a symbol of product quality and safety but also a key requirement for accessing the European market.

Audio and Video Products Requiring CE Certification

CE certification applies to the following audio and video products:

- Television Equipment: CRT TVs, LCD TVs, rear-projection TVs, etc.

- Audio Equipment: Home theaters, speakers, amplifiers, subwoofers, PA systems, and more.

- Playback Devices: VCRs, karaoke machines, DVD players, VCDs, EVDs, MP3/MP4/MP5 players, tape recorders, radios, voice recorders, etc.

- Car Audio & Video Equipment: Car players, car DVD players, car MP4 players, car monitors, car advertising machines, etc.

- Other Devices: Game consoles, answering machines, headphones, microphones, digital cameras, camcorders, jukeboxes, keyboards, electric guitars, live-streaming equipment, etc.

CE Certification Standards

CE-LVD (low voltage directive – Safety Standards)

Audio and video products must comply with EN 62368-1, which mainly covers:

- Electrical Safety: Insulation performance, power line safety, grounding measures, etc.

- Mechanical Safety: Structural strength, safety of moving parts, durability, etc.

- Thermal Safety: Heat dissipation design to prevent overheating, fire risks, or damage.

CE-EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive)

- Radiated Emissions (EN 55032): Controls electromagnetic radiation to prevent interference with other electronic devices.

- Conducted Emissions (EN 55035): Ensures that electromagnetic interference remains within acceptable limits.

- Immunity Testing (EN 61000 Series):

- EN 61000-3-2: Harmonic current emissions

- EN 61000-3-3: Voltage fluctuations and flicker

- EN 61000-4-2: Electrostatic discharge immunity

- EN 61000-4-3: Radiated RF electromagnetic field immunity

- EN 61000-4-4: Electrical fast transient/burst immunity

- EN 61000-4-5: Surge immunity

- EN 61000-4-6: Conducted RF disturbances immunity

ce certification process

Preparation of Application Documents

(1) Product Information: Name, model, specifications, materials, etc.

(2) User Manual: Instructions on operation, features, maintenance, safety warnings (English version required).

(3) Technical Documentation:

- Electrical schematics, circuit diagrams, block diagrams

- Key structural drawings and design blueprints

- Detailed technical parameters (power, voltage, current, frequency, etc.)

(4) Key Component List: Supplier details for critical parts.

(5) Factory Quality Control Documents: Quality management system, production process control, inspection procedures, etc.

Selecting a Certification Body

- Notified Body: Required for high-risk or special-category products; offers higher authority.

- Other Certification Bodies: Suitable for general audio/video products, but must be accredited under ISO/IEC 17025.

Product Testing

- Sample Testing: Sending product samples to a certification body for safety and EMC tests.

- Test Results Evaluation: If compliant, proceed to the next step; if not, modifications and retesting are required.

Technical Documentation and Declaration of Conformity (DoC)

- Technical File Compilation: Includes design, test, and evaluation reports.

- Declaration of Conformity (DoC): A company declaration stating that the product meets all EU standards, signed and stamped by the responsible party.

Obtaining the ce certificate

- Certificate Issuance: The certification body reviews technical documents and issues the CE certificate.

- Certificate Maintenance: Companies must ensure product consistency; significant changes may require re-certification.

CE certification is a fundamental requirement for audio and video products entering the EU market. Companies must strictly follow the certification process to ensure compliance with relevant standards, successfully enter the European market, and enhance product competitiveness.
