On August 1st, the Standardization Administration of China officially released the "Requirements for the Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products" (GB 26572-2025). This standard will come into full effect on August 1, 2027, and will completely replacethe previously recommended standard GB/T 26572-2011. This marks the formal upgrade of China RoHS to a mandatory national standard, which holds significant importance for the green transformation and sustainable development of China's electrical and electronic industries.
a. The number of restricted hazardous substances increases from 6 to 10 categories.
b. Four new phthalates (PAEs)have been added:
① Dibutyl phthalate (DBP)
② Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP)
③ Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP)
④ Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP)
The limit requirements align with the EU RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU).
a. Electrical and electronic products will be divided into:
① Category I: Included in the compliance management catalog.
② Category II: Not included in the catalog.
Differentiated control measureswill be applied based on the classification.
After the official implementation on August 1, 2027, products already on the market will be granted a 1-year grace period(until August 1, 2028) to complete compliance adjustments.
This is the first mandatory national standardin the field of China RoHS regulation. Its technical content is based on an analysis of:
Relevant Chinese policies and regulations,
The current status and trends of hazardous substance substitution technologies in the industry.
It integrates and enhances the technical content of two previously recommended standards:
1. GB/T 26572-2011: "Requirements for the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electronic and Electrical Products"
2. SJ/T 11364-2024: "Marking for the Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products"
The release of this standard signifies full alignment between China RoHS and EU RoHS. It is expected to:
Encourage enterprises to increase investment in green material R\&Dand improve manufacturing processes,
Inspire innovation, and
Enhance technological capabilities and product quality.
However, enterprises with outdated technologyor inability to meet the new standard requirementsmay face the risk of being phased out.
