Recently, Amazon US has once again notified bathroom and plumbing product sellers that the platform will update the plumbing product catalog starting March 15. Products that do not comply with DOE (U.S. Department of Energy) certificationor fail to match a valid model numberwill be deactivated.
As a leader in global e-commerce, Amazon's move is not arbitrary. Instead, it reflects a broader global trend toward regulatory compliance. The bathroom and plumbing e-commerce sector is entering an era of strict oversight.
Products without certification or unlisted in the official database will be taken down by Amazon and lose eligibility for sale.
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) conducts market surveillance and product testing. For non-compliant models, penalties are \$575 per model. If a model was registered with false information, the fine becomes \$575 per day(based on total listing days).
The California Energy Commission (CEC) also inspects the market and tests products. If non-compliance is confirmed, fines are calculated based on Amazon sales volume: \$2,500 per violation(based on units sold).
DOE and CEC may purchase products as customers to verify certification and test performance. Even if certification is completed after inspection, fines must still be paid before the product is reinstated.
Amazon also audits historical sales. If non-compliant products are found, penalties such as deactivation or account suspension may follow.
