IP68 is a rating under the international protection standard IEC 60529, commonly used to describe the dust and water resistance capabilities of electronic devices such as smartphones and watches. In this standard, "IP" stands for Ingress Protection, and the two digits following it represent the level of protection against dust and water, respectively.

1. The first digit, 6, indicates that the device has achieved the highest level of dust resistance. This means the device is completely dust-tight, preventing any dust particles, even the finest ones, from penetrating the device's casing. This level of dust resistance is critical for ensuring long-term stable performance, as dust and particles can damage internal circuits, leading to malfunctions or REDuced performance.
2. The second digit, 8, signifies the highest level of water resistance. This means the device can withstand continuous immersion in water for a certain period without damage. Specifically, under the testing conditions of the IEC 60529 standard, IP68-rated devices can be submerged in water at a depth of at least 1 meter for more than 30 minutes without water ingress. These tests are conducted under laboratory conditions, typically using clean water.

1. Place the samples underwater at a depth of 1 to 100 meters.
2. Test duration: 30 minutes or more.
3. After the test, open the casing and inspect it. If no water droplets are found inside the casing, the test is considered passed.
- The IP68 waterproof rating does not mean the device can be used at any water depth or for extended periods of submersion. In reality, increased water pressure and changes in water temperature may affect the device's waterproof performance.
- Additionally, saltwater, cheMICals, and other liquids can compromise the sealing performance of the device. Therefore, it is not recommended to use IP68-rated devices in seawater or environments containing chemicals.
