I. Certification Overview

The Info-Communications Media Development Authority (IMDA) is the regulatory body in Singapore responsible for the certification of telecommunication and wireless devices. All such products intended for sale or use in Singapore must obtain IMDA Certification approval.

II. Who Can Apply for an IMDA Certificate?

1. Singapore-registered entities under the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA).

2. Entities holding a Telecommunications Dealer’s License.

 

III. Applicable Product Scope

 

Products that involve telecommunications or wireless communication require IMDA certification before entering the Singapore market. These include but are not limited to:

 

1. Remote controls

2. Wireless microphones

3. Cordless phones

4. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) devices

5. Printers, keyboards, computer mice, touchpads

6. Medical devices with wireless functions

7. Any wireless technology (e.g., Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, RFID)

V. Certification Label Requirements

1. Label dimensions must be 17mm x 9mmand must not be resized.

2. Dealer’s Licence Numberis not the certificate number, but the importer’s unique code.

3. The label may be affixed to the product, user manual, or packaging.

VI. IMDA Certification Process

1. Determine Certification Type:Identify the appropriate scheme (e.g., ERF, SRD) based on product functionality (e.g., wireless communication, Bluetooth).

2. Choose an Authorized Body:Engage an IMDA-recognized third-party lab (e.g., JJR Lab in China) for technical assessment and testing.

3. Prepare Technical Documentation:Compile product specifications, RF/emc test reports, user manual, etc.

4. Submit Application:Provide complete documentation to IMDA or an authorized body to avoid delays.

5. Review & Testing:IMDA reviews the documents and conducts compliance testing for RF, EMC, and other applicable standards.

6. Certification Issuance:Upon approval, the IMDA certificate is issued and the product can be marketed in Singapore.

7. Maintain Compliance:Ensure ongoing conformity during production. Any hardware/software updates may require re-certification.
