Indonesian Certification Guide for Electrical Products

01. SNI Certification

SNI (Standar Nasional Indonesia) Certification is Indonesia’s national standard certification managed by BSN (Badan Standadisasi Nasional). The certificate is valid for four years and requires annual audits.

Controlled Product Categories under SNI for Small Household Appliances:

Kitchen Appliances (17 types):

Rice cookers, electric kettles, MICrowave ovens, electric ovens, toaster oven combos, irons, juicers, blenders, food processors, mULti-function electric kettles, multi-function rice cookers, stew pots, steamers, electric griddles, induction cookers, electric pressure cookers, small household ovens.

Cleaning Appliances (12 types):

Vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, robotic vacuums, steam mops, electric brooms, handheld cordless vacuums, commercial vacuum cleaners, mite removers, electric floor scrubbers, garbage disposals, shoe washers, automatic cup washers.

Personal Care Appliances (10 types):

Hair dryers, curling irons, shavers, electric toothbrushes, travel hair dryers, foot massagers, eye massagers, wet/dry electric shavers, electric nail tools, epilators.

Heating/Cooling Devices (6 types):

Electric fans, electric heaters, oil heaters, mini air conditioners (below 1 HP), portable air conditioners, dehumidifiers.

Others:

Electric hot water bags, electric blankets, electric mosquito swatters, air circulation fans, humidifiers, air purifiers, etc.

Certification Process:

Certification Mark Format:

1. Example: aa-bbbb-yyyy

2. LSPr-nnn-IDN

3. Must be clearly, indelibly, and permanently marked on the product and its packaging.

02. K3L Certification

K3L stands for Security, Safety, Health, and Environment. It is a mandatory product registration without factory audit. Each model gets a single certificate valid for 5 years. RegisteRED products receive a K3L number which must be labeled on the product before sale.

Controlled Products under K3L:

Applies to household electrical/electronic devices and textiles to ensure they pose no harm to users or the environment.

Examples:

Vacuum cleaners, toasters, rice cookers, electric kettles, hair dryers, microwaves, electric shavers, electric massagers, immersion heaters, cookware, portable ovens, blenders, juicers, mixers, food processors, water dispensers, hand dryers, curling brushes, etc.

Certification Process:

1. Submit documentation

2. Sample testing

3. Test report generation

4. K3L registration

5. MoT issues registration letter

6. Use of assigned registration number

Labeling Requirements:

1. Must be shown on: product, outer packaging, user manual, or warranty card (at least one)

2. Must include: K3L registration number, product name, model, manufacturer/importer name

3. Font size: Minimum 3mm height for legibility

03. MKG Product After-Sales Certification

"MKG" stands for Manual dan Kartu Garansi(Manual and Warranty Card). It ensures consumers are provided with clear, honest, and understandable product information. All electronic and telecommunication products must include Indonesian-language manuals and warranty cards before sale.

Applicable Products:

As per Trade Minister Regulation No. 26/2021, 74 product types require MKG registration. These include:

1. Home Appliances:Refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, microwaves, rice cookers, ovens, vacuum cleaners, irons, coffee makers, kettles, juicers, fans, hair dryers, water dispensers.

2. Audio-Visual Devices:DVD/VCD players, home theater amplifiers, TVs, audio systems, projectors, digital antennas, CCTV.

3. Office Equipment:Printers, copiers, fax machines, shredders, scanners, electronic keyboards, calculators, intercoms.

4. Personal Care Products:Electric shavers, massagers, breast pumps, straighteners, electric toothbrushes, baby bottle sterilizers.

5. Telecom & IT Devices:Mobile phones, tablets, laptops, routers, UPS, GPS devices, digital cameras, gaming consoles.

6. Industrial Equipment:Water pumps, air coolers, electric boilers, generators, welding equipment, cutting machines.

Certification Process:

1. Confirm if product is listed

2. Request quote and confirm fee

3. Submit application and documents

4. Trade Ministry review

5. Issuance of MKG number upon approval

Required Documents:

1. Product application form

2. Business license & company registration (NIB)

3. User manual and guide (in Indonesian)

4. Warranty card with at least 6 local service centers

5. SIMPKTN registered OSS account (username & password)

> Note:Within 4 years of MKG issuance, service centers must expand to 10 locations, and spare parts supply must remain stable.

04. Energy Efficiency Certification (SKEM)

SKEM (Standar Kinerja Energi Minimumor Minimum Energy Performance Standard) limits the maximum energy consumption of products under defined conditions to meet Indonesian standards.

Covered Product Categories and Requirements:

1. Rice Cookers:Capacity ≤ 3L (excluding pressure cookers), Max input ≤ 250V AC

2. Refrigerators:Capacity ≤ 300L, Voltage ≤ 250V

3. Fans:Blade diameter 150–600mm (excluding ceiling/exhaust fans)

4. Air Conditioners:Wall-mounted split type, cooling capacity ≤ 27,000 BTU/h

5. Lighting:Self-ballasted LED lamps must have ≥ 80 lm/W, lifespan ≥ 15,000 hours

6. Televisions:Screen size ≤ 60 inches

Energy Label Requirements:

1. Labels must be affixed to both the product and its packaging, containing energy grade information.

2. After issuance, proof of labeling must be submitted to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources within 5 working days.

Required Documents:

1. Articles of association & Ministry of Law approval

2. Company registration certificate (NIB)

3. Business license (IZIN/IUI/SIUP)

4. Company tax card (NPWP)

5. ISO 9001:2015 certificate

6. Tax clearance certificate (SKF)

7. Product documents (photos, HS code, specs, etc.)

> Important Notes:

1. Certificate valid for 4 years; renewable once.

2. Any technical changes affecting energy performance void the certificate.

3. Energy label must be affixed in the country of origin.

4. Quarterly reports must be submitted to the ministry.

05. DJID Certification

DJID is the Directorate General of Digital Infrastructure (formerly sdppi). As of January 20, 2025, all certification logos and codes have been updated accordingly. DJID certification is mandatory for wireless and telecom products entering the Indonesian market to ensure compatibility and avoid interference.

Products Requiring DJID Certification:

Applies to all wireless-capable devices using Bluetooth, WLAN, NFC/SRD, GSM, WCDMA, LTE, 5G, etc. Examples: Smartphones, laptops, TVs, wireless speakers, Wi-Fi routers, TWS earbuds.

Key Requirements:

1. Radio Frequency (RF) Testing:For transmitting devices (e.g., LTE, GSM, WLAN, Bluetooth)

2. Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC):Mandatory for all devices to ensure non-interference

3. Electrical Safety Testing:Required to confirm device safety

Marking:

DJID logo and certificate number (format: xxxxxx/DJID/2025) must be shown clearly on product and documentation.
