Update time : 2024-06-29

The General Certificate of Conformity (GCC) in the United States is a certificate that verifies that non-children's (general use) products comply with all applicable consumer product safety rules. This certificate is a written declaration issued by manufacturers or importers based on a reasonable testing program, stating that their products meet specific safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Products that require gcc certification include, but are not limited to:

- Architectural glass materials

- Apparel

- Mattresses

- Bunk beds

- Paints and similar surface coatings

- Carpets

- Antennas

- Cellulose insulation

- Matchboxes

- Portable gasoline containers

- Lawn darts

- Bicycles

- All-terrain vehicles (ATVs)

- Multi-purpose lighters

- Electric lawnmowers

- Lighters

- Consumer patching compounds

- Garage door openers

- Metal candle wicks

- Drywall

- Special packaging

- Bicycle helmets

- Artificial ashes materials

- Swimming pool and spa drain covers

- Fireworks

- Polyvinyl chloride film

- Refrigerator doors, etc.

There are distinct differences between GCC and CPC (Children’s Product Certificate) applicability:

- gcc certificates apply to non-children's products, specifically aimed at adult products listed in the GCC product list provided by the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission).

- cpc certificates, on the other hand, are for children's products designed or intended primarily for children ≤12 years of age. Children's products require a Children’s Product Certificate (CPC), not a gcc certificate.

Information required in a GCC certificate includes:

1. Product identification corresponding to this certificate.

2. Description of the rules, bans, standards, or regulations the product must comply with.

3. Information about the importer or domestic manufacturer ensuring product compliance.

4. Product description, production date and location, and testing date and location.

5. Testing agency name, detailed mailing address, telephone number, and contact information of the person responsible for the test results record.

The above information provides a detailed overview of the General Certificate of Conformity (GCC) in the United States, including its definition, scope of application, and required contents. Understanding these details is essential for compliance when exporting products to the U.S. market.
