What is wercs?

wercs certification is a product registration requirement for large supermarkets and retailers in countries like the United States and Canada. It is a supply chain safety management system developed by The WERCS, a U.S.-based company, designed for medium and large retailers.

The supply chain safety management system enables:

- Effective centralized management of a vast network of suppliers and products.

- Evaluation and scheduling of both current and prospective products, facilitating product selection.

- Quick and convenient access to accurate compliance and sustainability data through an industry-leading retail program.

This program provides suppliers with a secure and intuitive platform to submit and edit critical product and chemical composition data required for hazard communication. The submitted product information is directly transmitted to retailers.

This authoritative review and verification process simplifies and enhances collaboration between suppliers and retailers. Suppliers registered with WERCSmart are preferred by retailers when sourcing products.

WERCSmart Registration for Battery Products

1. WERCSmart Registration for Battery Products

a. Batteries Not Sold Directly to Retailers

These batteries are only installed in other electronic products, which are then sold as independent brands. Since these batteries do not have a UPC/GTIN code, the battery supplier must register them in the WERCSmart system. This allows electronic product suppliers to link the battery information when registering their products.

b. Batteries Sold Directly to Retailers

These batteries have a UPC/GTIN code and must be registered in the WERCS system. The system then transmits the relevant information to the designated retailers at the time of registration.

2. WERCSmart Registration for Electronic Products Containing Batteries

Registration of electronic products containing batteries involves two steps:

a. Battery Supplier Registration

Battery suppliers must first register their battery information in the WERCSmart system and add their company name to the WERCS battery supplier list. (If multiple battery suppliers are involved, each must register independently.)

b. Electronic Product Registration

The electronic product supplier registers the product in WERCSmart. During this process, they must select the corresponding battery information. The system will display a list of registered battery suppliers, allowing the product supplier to link the battery data.

This process shows that SDS (Safety Data Sheet) management for electronic products containing batteries primarily focuses on the battery itself.

Required Documents for wercs registration
