Smart Watch Australia RCM Certification

Views :
Update time : 2026-05-30

Smart watches sold in Australia and New Zealand are mandatorily required to obtain rcm certification, covering three core areas: Electromagnetic Compatibility, Radio Communication and Electrical Safety. Plan testing and registration procedures in advance to ensure product compliance for market launch and avoid customs clearance risks.

As electronic products integrating Bluetooth communication, battery power supply and information processing, smart watches exported to Australia and New Zealand generally need to apply for RCM (Regulatory Compliance mark) Certification. RCM is a mandatory compliance mark in the region, indicating that products comply with local regulations on electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility and radio communication.

Overview of RCM Certification

RCM Certification is jointly administered by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) and state-level electrical safety regulators.

Applicable Smart Watch Types

 Smart watches with Bluetooth function

Smart watches with Wi-Fi or cellular network (eSIM)

 Wearable devices with charging function

Core Certification Scope

 Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)

 Radio Frequency (RF) Communication

 Electrical Safety

RCM Certification Requirements for Smart Watches

1.Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)

Ensure the device does not cause interference to other electronic equipment.
Common standard: AS/NZS CISPR 32

2.Radio Frequency (RF) Communication

Wireless modules such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi shall comply with Australian spectrum regulations.
Certification conversion is generally acceptable based on existing ETSI or fcc test reports.

3.Electrical Safety

Compliance requirements for charging circuits and batteries

Power adapters shall meet Australian electrical safety standards

4.Labelling & Registration

Products must be affixed with the rcm mark

Enterprises shall complete registration in the Electrical Equipment Safety System (EESS)

RCM Certification Process

1.Document Preparation

 Product specification and function description

Wireless module documents (frequency, power, existing certifications)

Circuit diagrams and PCB design files

 User manual and labelling information

2.Product Testing

 emc testing

 Radio Frequency (RF) Testing

 Electrical Safety Testing (if applicable)

3.Compliance Assessment & Documentation Compilation

Organize test reports and technical files

 Issue Declaration of Conformity (DoC)

4.Registration & Marking

Register supplier information on Australian official systems

Products can be sold only after being labelled with the RCM mark

Certification Cycle & Cost

Certification Cycle: Normally 2–4 weeks. The cycle can be shortened if valid CE or FCC reports are available.

Cost: Quotation varies by test items and product functions. Prices at JJR Laboratory start from as low as 450 US dollars.

Important Notes

1. All wireless functions must conform to local frequency band requirements.

2. Strictly follow safety standards for batteries and charging circuits.

3. Labelling information shall fully comply with rcm marking specifications.

4. Technical documents must be retained for no less than 5 years for official random inspections.

RCM Certification for smart watches mainly covers EMC, RF communication and electrical safety, which is a prerequisite for accessing the Australian and New Zealand markets.

Enterprises are advised to arrange testing and registration procedures in advance to guarantee compliant product launch and prevent risks of customs clearance failure or product removal. You may provide information including wireless functions (Bluetooth/Wi-Fi/eSIM), battery specifications and charging modes of your smart watches, and we will customize the rcm test plan and document checklist for you.
