U.S. CPSC Consumer Product Standards & Requirements

The CPSC stands for the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. It is an independent federal regulatory agency in the United States. It is not a certification company, nor is its scope limited to just one specific category of consumer products.

Basic Information

• Established: 1972, pursuant to the Consumer Product Safety Act (CPSA).

• Mission: To protect the public from unreasonable risks of injury or death associated with consumer products.

• Jurisdiction: Approximately 15,000 types of consumer products, covering household, sports, recreation, and school supplies.

What the CPSC Regulates (Simplified Version)

• ✅ Children's Products (≤ 12 years old, strictest regulations): Toys, children's apparel, cribs, child safety seats, children's tableware, etc.

• ✅ General Consumer Products: Home appliances, furniture, lighting, chargers, batteries, apparel, luggage, bicycles, fitness equipment, cleaning supplies, etc.

• ❌ Does NOT Regulate: Automobiles, tires, vehicles and boats, weapons/firearms, tobacco and alcohol, food, drugs, cosmetics, pesticides, and medical devices.
