3. The requirements of ASTM E2952-23 specify an air-purifying respiratory protective escape device, laboratory-tested with a service life of 15 minutes, designed to protect the head, eyes, and respiratory system from particulates, irritants, and toxic gases and vapors typically produced by fire.

4. Controlled laboratory tests to determine compliance with this specification’s performance requirements should not be considered as establishing the performance level for all situations that individuals may encounter.

5. This specification does not apply to the provision, installation, or use of air-purifying respiratory protective smoke escape devices.

6. This standard does not apply to respiratory protective escape devices used in the presence of, or potentially in the presence of, oxygen-deficient atmospheres (oxygen content below 19.58201 volume percent).
