What Certifications Are Needed for Amazon Carabiners?

Recently, Amazon has been strictly inspecting carabiners and related products. If a carabiner is found without the required certification, it will be removed from the platform immediately. So, what certifications are needed for selling carabiners on Amazon?

What Is a Carabiner?

A carabiner is a type of buckle designed to work with ropes for load-bearing and suspension, commonly used in mountaineering. It is typically made from materials such as aluminum alloy, iron, or stainless steel.

Carabiners come in various shapes, with oval and round being the most common. Other shapes include rectangular and triangular designs. Aluminum alloy carabiners are lightweight and portable, offering excellent corrosion and rust resistance, making them a popular choice among outdoor enthusiasts.

Stainless steel triangular carabiners are widely used for sandbag hanging ropes due to their superior strength and durability, allowing them to withstand high levels of tension.

Amazon's Compliance Standards for Carabiners

Amazon requires carabiners used for climbing to comply with one of the following standards:

- ANSI/ASSE Z359.12-2009

- ASTM F1774

- UIAA 121

Additionally, a test report from an ILAC ISO 17025 certified laboratory is required to confirm that each product has been tested and meets the applicable standards.

The ASTM F1774 standard specifically applies to carabiners used for climbing and mountaineering.

The primary test criteria include:

- Locking mechanism strength

- Overall strength

- Corrosion resistance

Important Notes:

- The test report must include product images, showing both the packaging and warning labels.

- The images in the test report must match the product images on the Amazon listing.

- All submitted documents must be genuine, reliable, and accurate. If the provided documents fail to meet Amazon’s safety requirements, your selling privileges may be revoked.

Carabiners sold on Amazon must have packaging and warning labels that comply with Amazon’s requirements. If the product images do not match the ones in the test report, the carabiner will be deemed non-compliant and removed from the platform.
