Views :
Update time : 2025-09-24

ANSI C18.3Mis a safety and performance standard developed by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)for primary lithium batteries(including button and coin cells).

The standard is divided into mULtiple parts, with the latest versions being Part 1-2024and Part 2-2021.

Below is an overview of its key content and related information:

What is the ANSI C18.3M Test Report?(图1)

1. Scope of Application

- Battery Types: Covers primary lithium batteries (such as lithium manganese dioxide and lithium carbon fluoride batteries), including

button cells (diameter 5–25 mm, height 1–6 mm) and coin cells.

- Application Fields: Applies to batteries sold individually or embedded in consumer electronics (e.g., remote controls, clocks, calculators).

2. Test Items

ANSI C18.3M requires multi-dimensional testingto ensure safety and reliability:

- Electrical Performance Tests: Voltage, capacity, discharge performance, etc.

- Mechanical Performance Tests: Impact, vibration, compression, drop tests, etc.

- Environmental Tests: High temperature, low temperature, temperature cycling, humidity, etc.

- Safety Tests: Short circuit, overcharge, forced discharge, leakage prevention, etc.

3. Certification & Compliance

- E-commerce compliance:

Since 2023, major e-commerce platforms require button cells to be certified to ANSI C18.3M,

and to simultaneously meet packaging standards 16 CFR 1700.15/20(child-resistant packaging)

and Public Law 117-171(warning label requirements).

- Safety Objective:

Prevent child ingestion incidents and ensure battery stability during both normal use and foreseeable misuse.

4. Related Regulations

- 16 CFR 1700.15/20:

Specifies child-resistant packaging design, to be implemented together with ANSI C18.3M (battery performance).

- Public Law 117-171 (Reese’s Law):

Requires clear warning labels on product packaging, instructions, and battery compartments to highlight ingestion risks and emergency measures.

5. Standard Versions

- ANSI C18.3M Part 1-2024: Specifies battery dimensions, labeling, and electrical performance requirements.

- ANSI C18.3M Part 2-2021: Focuses on safety testing methods, including battery behavior under extreme environmental conditions.
