Description of ASTM F2167

ASTM F2167 Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Infant Bouncer Seats

Introduction to ASTM F2167

The ASTM F2167 standard sets clear requirements for the safety performance of infant bouncer seats, aiming to ensure the safety of occupants and caregivers during the use of the product. The standard defines an infant bouncer seat as a freestanding product intended to support an infant aged 0 to 6 months (who cannot yet sit up unassisted) in a reclined position, and provides a bouncing function through caregiver assistance. Its core objective is to effectively reduce the safety risks that may arise from normal use and reasonably foreseeable misuse of the product by establishing detailed technical requirements and testing methods.

ASTM F2167 Battery Compartment Test Procedure

Operating Conditions: Operate the battery-powered function at its highest speed or maximum intensity. During this process, no mechanical or electrical protective devices (such as clutches, fuses, etc.) may be disabled. Subsequently, run the function continuously and record the peak temperature. After recording the peak temperature, continue testing for 60 minutes before stopping.

Handling of Automatic Shut-off Situations:

  • When the function automatically shuts off or requires manual intervention to remain on, the temperature changes must be continuously monitored for 30 seconds. In the event of an interruption, it is permissible to restart the function to ensure the continuous completion of the 30-second effective operation test.

  • If the automatic shut-off time of the function exceeds 30 seconds, the test must continue until the function shuts off.

ASTM F2167 Restraint System

An infant bouncer seat must be equipped with two key components: a waist restraint and a crotch restraint. During the safety testing phase, none of the connection points may show any signs of loosening or detachment, as this is the most fundamental requirement to ensure the baby's safety.

During testing, the infant bouncer seat is completely secured to ensure no displacement occurs. Select an anchor point and slowly apply force along the daily direction of stress, gradually increasing the force to 45 pounds within 5 seconds, and holding it for 10 seconds. Subsequently, repeat this test operation for every connection point of the restraint system and anchoring devices.

  • Test Requirement: During the test, the anchoring devices of the restraint system must not separate from their attachment points.

ASTM F2167 Dynamic Slip Resistance Performance

First, clean the slip-resistant pad of the test platform and adjust it to the specified incline angle. Install a 7.5-pound standard sandbag as a counterweight. After adjusting the seat's restraint system with a dummy, replace it with the test fixture. During testing, if the seat features a vibration function, it must be adjusted to the maximum setting. Next, allow a 2.5-pound steel weight to freely drop from a height of 15 centimeters to impact the seat 10 times (with a 5-second interval between each drop). Repeat this impact test on the left, right, and rear sides respectively.

  • Test Requirement: The infant bouncer seat must not slide a distance exceeding 1.3 cm during the test.

ASTM F2167 Toy Bar Static Test

Place a 150 × 150 mm, 19 mm thick wooden block closely against the bight of the seat in the center position. Then, apply a load of 40 pounds or twice the manufacturer's recommended maximum weight (whichever is greater). Lift the seat vertically within 5 seconds and hold it for 1 minute. Ensure that the seat can move freely and without any restriction after being lifted.

Subsequently, conduct a light load test: In the same manner, place the wooden block closely against the bight of the seat in the center position, apply a 5-pound weight, and lift the seat vertically within 5 seconds. Ultimately, ensure that the seat can move freely without any restriction after being lifted.
