NOM-208-SCFI-2016 is an official Mexican standard that defines the technical requirements and testing methods for short-range radio devices, ensuring their safe and reliable operation.

Scope

Covered Products

This standard applies to wireless devices using spread spectrum technologies (frequency hopping, digital modulation) operating in the following frequency bands:

- 902 MHz - 928 MHz (Industrial, Scientific, and Medical equipment)

- 2400 MHz - 2483.5 MHz (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other consumer devices)

- 5725 MHz - 5850 MHz (Wireless LAN, high-speed data communication)

Common Devices

- Wireless network equipment (routers, modems)

- Short-range communication devices (Bluetooth headsets, wireless keyboards and mice, remote controls)

- Industrial and commercial devices (wireless barcode scanners, RFID tags, cordless phones)

- Others (baby monitors, wireless cameras, garage door remote controls)

*This list is not exhaustive and may expand in the future.*

Key Requirements

1. Frequency Compliance

Devices must operate within designated frequency bands to avoid interference with other communication systems.

2. Technical Requirements

- Must comply with *IFT-008-2015* standard (frequency stability, power, bandwidth, etc.)

- Output power: Must not exceed safe thresholds

- Frequency stability: Prevents drifting into unauthorized bands

- Bandwidth and channel spacing: Ensures efficient spectrum usage and minimizes interference

3. Testing Methods

- Power testing: Ensures signal strength complies with the standard

- Frequency stability testing: Ensures stability during operation

- Bandwidth verification: Confirms the signal remains within specified limits

4. Certification Process

- Testing Institutions: Devices must be tested at SE-recognized and IFT-approved laboratories (e.g., QIMA-NYCE)

- Review: Submission of technical documentation, lab testing, and evaluation report

- Certification Issuance: NOM-208 certification is granted upon compliance

5. Regulation and Enforcement

- Regulatory Bodies: Secretariat of Economy (SE) and Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT)

- Responsibilities: Certification management, market inspections, and non-compliance rectification

How to Obtain NOM-208 Certification?

The Chinese JJR Laboratory can assist with NOM-208 certification, providing:

- Laboratory testing

- Technical document review

- Certification processing

Ensure your product complies with regulations and smoothly enters the Mexican market!
