A desk lamp is a lighting fixture placed on a desktop or other flat surfaces, primarily used for illumination to facilitate reading, studying, and working. It is classified as a portable lamp. Incandescent desk lamps produce soft light but consume a lot of energy; energy-saving desk lamps are efficient with high brightness; LED desk lamps are energy-saving, environmentally friendly, and long-lasting; fluorescent desk lamps provide bright light suitable for large area illumination.

What is the UL 153 standard?

The UL 153 standard applies to portable or movable lighting fixtures that are connected to a 120V, 15A, or 20A power supply. Common products in daily life, such as desk lamps, flashlights, headlamps, small book lights, reading lamps, LED desk lamps, emergency handheld lights, and other portable lighting fixtures, can all be tested according to this standard.

UL 153 Standard Requirements:

1. Electrical safety requirements: The lamp's circuits and electrical connections must comply with safety standards, such as fuses and grounding devices.

2. Dielectric strength: The lamp must be able to withstand Electrical Testing at its rated voltage to ensure that no electric shocks or other hazards occur.

3. Material and construction requirements: The lamp's components must be made of flame-retardant materials to prevent fires. The lamp's casing, plug, switch, and other connectors must also meet safety requirements.

4. Thermal safety requirements: The lamp’s casing and other hot surfaces must not exceed safe temperatures to prevent burns or fire hazards.

5. Stability: The lamp must have adequate stability to prevent it from tipping over or sliding, preventing accidents.

6. Labeling and indication: The lamp must be marked with the manufacturer's name, model, rated voltage, and other necessary warning symbols to remind users of correct use and installation.

LED Lighting Fixture UL certification Standards:

1. ul 1598 standard (Fixed lighting fixtures):

This standard applies to fixtures used in non-hazardous areas and installed on branch circuits with a voltage of less than 600 V. It essentially covers almost all permanent wired lighting fixtures on the market, including small ones like recessed lights, wall lights, ceiling lights, and larger ones like street lights. The standard includes general requirements, mechanical structure, electrical structure, incandescent bulb requirements, fluorescent lamp requirements, mechanical tests, electrical tests, and other specifications.

2. UL 153 standard (Portable lighting fixtures):

This standard applies to lighting fixtures used for work lighting or ambient lighting that are connected to a nominal 120-volt, 15- or 20-amp branch circuit via a power cord with a plug. Essentially, as long as the lamp uses a power cord with a plug and cannot be tested under other special lighting fixture standards, it falls under this standard.

3. UL 1993 standard (Self-ballasted lamps and their adapters):

UL 1993 is a joint standard issued by UL in the United States, CSA in Canada, and ANCE in Mexico, and is also an ANSI-approved American national standard. It covers self-ballasted lamps and their adapters, with rated input voltages from low voltage up to 347V. Self-ballasted fluorescent lamps (energy-saving lamps) and their adapters, LED bulbs, LED tubes, and other LED light sources destined for the North American market are evaluated under UL 1993.

Desk Lamp UL153 Certification Process:

1. Fill out the ul testing report application form.

2. Provide the UL test sample.

3. Send the sample to the testing laboratory.

4. Review draft data for verification.

5. After successful testing, obtain the qualified test report.
