Update time : 2024-12-28

ROHS certification is a directive under the European Union CE certification system. It primarily targets electrical and electronic products that may contain harmfUL substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) during production or in their raw materials.

This directive, established through EU legislation, is a mandatory standard officially named the "Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment". It aims to regulate material and process standards for electronic and electrical products, particularly limiting the lead content to no more than 0.1%, thereby promoting human health and environmental protection.

EU RoHS 2.0 Certification Standards

1. IEC 62321-3-1:2013

Determination of certain substances in electrotechnical products - Part 3-1: Screening - X-ray fluorescence spectrometry for lead, mercury, cadmium, total chromium, and total bromine.

2. IEC 62321-5:2013

Determination of certain substances in electrotechnical products - Part 5: Determination of cadmium, lead, and chromium in polymers and electronic parts by AAS, AFS, ICP-OES, and ICP-MS; cadmium and lead in metals.

3. IEC 62321-6:2015

Determination of certain substances in electrotechnical products - Part 6: Determination of PBBs and PBDEs in polymers using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).

4. IEC 62321-8:2017

Determination of certain substances in electrotechnical products - Part 8: Determination of phthalates (DEHP, BBP, DBP, DIBP) in polymers by thermal desorption-GC-MS, ion chromatography, or liquid chromatography.

EU RoHS 2.0 Testing Standards and Limits

1. Pb (Lead): 1000 ppm

2. Cd (Cadmium): 100 ppm

3. Hg (Mercury): 1000 ppm

4. Cr(VI) (Hexavalent Chromium): 1000 ppm

5. PBBs (Polybrominated Biphenyls): 1000 ppm

6. PBDEs (Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers): 1000 ppm

7. DEHP (Di(2-ethylhexyl) Phthalate): 1000 ppm

8. BBP (Benzyl Butyl Phthalate): 1000 ppm

9. DBP (Dibutyl Phthalate): 1000 ppm

10. DIBP (Diisobutyl Phthalate): 1000 ppm

Product Categories CoveRED by RoHS

1. Large Household Appliances: Refrigerators, washing machines, MICrowaves, air conditioners, etc.

2. Small Household Appliances: Vacuum cleaners, irons, hair dryers, ovens, clocks, etc.

3. IT and Telecommunications Equipment: Computers, fax machines, telephones, mobile phones, etc.

4. Consumer Equipment: Radios, TVs, VCRs, musical instruments, etc.

5. Lighting Equipment: Fluorescent lamps (excluding household use), lighting control devices, etc.

6. Electrical and Electronic Tools: Drills, lathes, welding equipment, sprayers, etc.

7. Toys, Leisure, and Sports Equipment: Electric vehicles, video game consoles, automatic gambling machines, etc.

8. Medical Devices: X-ray machines, ECG machines, analytical instruments, etc.

9. Monitoring and Control Instruments: Smoke detectors, thermostats, factory monitoring systems, etc.

10. Automatic Dispensers: Vending machines, etc.

RoHS applies not only to complete products but also to components, raw materials, and packaging used in their production, impacting the entire production chain.
