On December 7, 2022, the official journal OJ formally published the amendment Directive (EU) 2022/2380 concerning the common charger, supplementing the specific implementation requirements for the universal charging interface under Article 3.3(a) of the red directive 2014/53/EU.

All devices with a Type-C charging interface must be equipped with a USB Type-C charging interface compliant with the EN IEC 62680-1-3:2021 standard and should support charging with cables meeting the same standard.

On June 27, 2023, the EU approved the adoption of the 2022 versions of the IEC 62680-1-2 and -1-3 standards.
