What is a UIN?

UIN stands for Unique Identification Number, which is the French EPR registration number.

Each recycling category under French EPR has a distinct UIN – one UIN corresponds to one recycling category.

A UIN is issued upon approval of French EPR, similar to obtaining a tax number when registering for VAT.

General UIN format: FRXXXXXX_CODE
Note: XXXXXX is a numeric code; CODE consists of a 2-digit category number and a 4-digit random English code.

Is a UIN the same as a certificate?

A UIN is NOT a certificate.
A UIN and a certificate are two separate documents issued after EPR registration: one unique code and one official voucher.

A certificate is an official document / electronic acknowledgment issued by the recycling company or authorities upon successful EPR registration.

Important note: The registration number shown on the certificate is the SYDEREP system registration number, not the UIN.

What are the uses of UIN and certificate respectively?

• UIN: To be uploaded to the Amazon EPR registration number portal. Only after successfully uploading a valid UIN will the platform stop withholding and remitting French packaging recycling fees. UINs are verifiable for authenticity.

• Certificate: For sellers to review detailed declaration information and recycling company details. It can be compared to a VAT registration certificate provided by an accountant. Certificates cannot be verified for authenticity.

Therefore, obtaining a UIN is your sole priority.

How to verify UIN authenticity? (Taking Packaging Law & Textile Law as examples)

1. Visit the official UIN verification website [French Packaging Law / Textile Law]:

2. Accept the website’s cookie policy upon login; otherwise, verification will fail.

3. Enter your French Packaging Law / Textile Law UIN in the ID unique filière field and click Rechercher.

4. Upon successful search, the English name of the company affiliated with the UIN and its license number will be displayed.

1. Access the Amazon upload page

2. Enter your French EPR UIN
Available French EPR categories on the Amazon upload portal include:
Packaging, Batteries, Electrical and Electronic Equipment, Tires.
Enter the corresponding UIN based on the product categories you sell.

3. Verify details and submit

Why upload a UIN?

Amazon is obligated to collect and verify EPR registration numbers for products sold by sellers in France and Germany, ensuring compliance with local EPR legal requirements.

Consequences of not providing a UIN

A UIN is a mandatory compliance requirement for French EPR since 2022.
Failure to provide one will result in the platform withholding and remitting French packaging recycling fees on your behalf.

If you do not have a UIN and refuse fee withholding, you will lose selling privileges for EPR-regulated products in France.

How can sellers obtain a UIN?

A UIN is only issued upon successful French EPR registration.
