In modern electronic devices and industrial machinery, waterproof and dustproof capabilities are essential for long-term reliability and proper operation. To address this, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) established the IP (Ingress Protection) rating standard to evaluate a product's protection capabilities.
Formulated by the IEC, the Ingress Protection (IP) rating measures a device's resistance to external elements like dust and water. The standard consists of two digits: the first represents the dust protection level, and the second represents the water protection level. Higher numbers indicate stronger protection. These two simple digits provide a clear overview of a device's suitable operating environment and overall durability.
For electrical enclosures, the IP rating format is IPXX, where "XX" represents two Arabic numerals. The first digit indicates protection against contact and solid foreign objects, while the second digit indicates protection against water ingress.
Human Safety: Protect users from accessing hazardous parts inside the enclosure.
Solid Ingress Protection: Prevent solid foreign objects from entering the equipment.
Water Ingress Protection: Prevent water from entering the enclosure and causing harmful effects.
Note: Different products require varying levels of protection based on their environment. A product's enclosure rating must match its actual use case. For example, the primary purpose of waterproof protection for outdoor streetlights is to prevent rain from damaging internal components.

Home Appliances & Indoor Devices: Basic dust and splash protection is usually sufficient. IP44 and IP54 easily meet general indoor safety requirements.
Outdoor & Industrial Equipment: These devices face harsher environments and typically require IP65 or IP66 to ensure reliable operation in dust and rain.
High-Precision Devices: Daily high-frequency items like smartphones and cameras usually require IP67 or higher to survive accidental submersion or severe dust exposure.
Application: The applicant fills out the ip rating test application form.
Quotation: Testing fees are evaluated based on the specific product.
Payment: Upon confirming the quote, the applicant signs the service agreement, pays the testing fee in full, and prepares the test samples.
Testing: The laboratory conducts the IP rating tests.
Reporting: Upon successful testing completion, an official IP rating test report is issued.
