Definition of kc certification

Within the scope of KC-certified products, the kc mark certification Products List is formULated in accordance with the Electrical Appliances Safety Control Act of South Korea. For the safety management of electrical appliances, a Self-Regulatory (Voluntary) Safety Confirmation System is implemented based on hazard levels, divided into two categories:

1. "Safety Certification Mandatory Electrical Appliances"

All electronic products falling under mandatory certification must obtain the KC Mark before being sold in the South Korean market. Annual factory inspections and random product testing are requiRED.

2. "Self-Regulatory (Voluntary) Safety Confirmation Electrical Appliances"

Certification renewal is required every five years, with no factory inspection needed for renewal.

Note: All products intended for sale in South Korea must obtain KC certification; only the certification modes differ. This is not an optional requirement.

Certification modes are classified by product categories as follows:

1. 09 Audio-Visual Application Equipment

Including 36 product types such as televisions and players, all fall under self-regulatory certification.

2. 10 Information Technology and Office Equipment

Covering 22 product types in total:

①　4 product types (e.g., copiers, power supplies) require mandatory certification;

②　18 product types (e.g., monitors, video cameras) fall under self-regulatory certification.

PS: Mandatory safety certification requires factory inspection and annual review, similar to China’s ccc certification. Self-regulatory safety certification only requires testing and evaluation, with no factory inspection needed.

Note: KC 62368-1 applies to all IT/AV equipment within the scope of KC regulation. It has replaced the original IT equipment standards (K 60950-1, K 60950-22) and AV equipment standard (K 60065), with mandatory implementation starting from January 1, 2023.

Other Notes

1. When applying with cb certification and test reports, strict consistency must be ensured in the following aspects: applicant name, product name and model, and test standard version compliant with KC requirements. The cb certificate and report must be valid within 3 years.

2. South Korean Voltage & Frequency Specifications:

①　Single-phase: 110V, 220V~

②　Three-phase: 220V, 380V, 60Hz or 50/60Hz

③　Not applicable: 230V 50Hz or 220V 50Hz

3. Plugs and power cords used with the product must comply with South Korean regulatory requirements.
