LFGB Certification is a safety regULation certification issued by Germany for food and daily necessities. Also known as the Food, Tobacco Products, Cosmetics and Other Articles Act, it is the fundamental legal document for food hygiene management in Germany, as well as the criterion and core for formulating other special food hygiene laws and regulations. This Act replaced the Food and Commodities Act (LMBG) in September 2005 and has been revised in recent years, mainly to align with European standards. Therefore, products that pass the LFGB standard certification and testing can be sold not only in Germany but also in the EU market.

Although the LFGB standard is a German one, it enjoys a high recognition across Europe. Even though the EU has its own regulations for food contact materials, EU buyers actually hold a higher recognition for Germany's LFGB. Most buyers will also request an LFGB Test Report instead of an EU food-grade test report. Thus, if a product falls within the scope of food-grade testing and is to be exported to the EU, lfgb certification is a better choice.
Simply put, all food contact products imported and sold in the German/EU market are requiRED to undergo LFGB testing, making the scope of LFGB-certified products extremely extensive. Only the common major categories are listed below:
Plates, saucers, cups, bowls, disposable tableware, lunch boxes, spoons, forks, knives, ladles, bottles, tea sets, coffee sets, wine sets, etc. (made of ceraMIC, melamine, plastic, rubber, glass, wood, paper)
