According to the definition in Arc Welding Equipment, arc welding equipment refers to a complete device or system that converts electrical energy into welding energy. This includes welding power sources (arc welding power supplies, resistance welders) powered by mains input, mechanical drive systems, or battery packs, as well as auxiliary devices and welding accessories.

IEC 60974-1: Arc Welding Equipment – Part 1: Welding Power Sources

This standard consists of 17 chapters and shares many similarities with conventional electrical and electronic safety testing standards. Chapter 3 introduces specific terms and definitions unique to welding, such as flat/static characteristics, conventional load, and duty cycle, which are critical parameters for testing.
