IP stands for Ingress Protection.
The IP protection rating system provides a method to classify products based on the degree of dustproofing, waterproofing, and collision resistance of electrical equipment and packaging. This system has been recognized by most European countries and was drafted by the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission).
The protection rating is mostly expressed by "IP" followed by two digits, which are used to specify the level of protection.
The first digit indicates the range of the equipment's resistance to micro-dust, or the extent to which people are protected from hazards in a sealed environment. I represents the rating for preventing the entry of solid foreign objects, with the highest level being 6.
The second digit indicates the degree of waterproofing of the equipment. P represents the rating for preventing water ingress, with the highest level being 8.
0: No protection
1: Protection against the ingress of large solid objects
2: Protection against the ingress of medium-sized solid objects
3: Protection against the ingress of small solid objects
4: Protection against the entry of solid objects greater than 1mm
5: Protection against harmful dust accumulation
6: Complete protection against dust ingress
0: No protection
1: Water droplets dripping onto the enclosure have no effect
2: When the enclosure is tilted up to 15 degrees, water droplets dripping onto the enclosure have no effect
3: Water or rainwater falling onto the enclosure from a 60-degree angle has no effect
4: Liquid splashed onto the enclosure from any direction has no harmful effect
5: Washing with water causes no harm or damage
6: Suitable for environments inside ship cabins
7: Can withstand immersion in water for a short period of time (1m)
8: Long-term immersion in water under a certain pressure
Example: If the IP protection rating of a display instrument is marked as IP65, it means that the product can completely prevent dust from entering and can be washed with water without causing any harm.
