ASTM F2264 is a consumer safety specification standard established in the United States for non-powered scooters (i.e., human-powered scooters), aimed at reducing safety risks during use by children. This standard is applicable to scooters used by children aged 5 years and older, and covers performance requirements, test methods, and labeling requirements.
Age of Use: The standard explicitly covers products used by children aged 5 years and older. The manufacturer's instructions may specify higher age or weight requirements, but the minimum age of use must not be less than 5 years old.
Test Environment: Tests must be conducted in an environment with a room temperature of 73±9°F (23±5°C). The product must be pre-conditioned in this environment for at least 1 hour prior to testing.
Product Assembly: During testing, the product must be completely assembled according to the manufacturer's instructions, unless otherwise specified.
Durability Test: Apply the maximum weight (the manufacturer's specified value, or 200 lbs/90 kg if not specified) to the middle of the deck, and drop it 6 times from different heights (front wheel 6 inches off the ground, rear wheel 12 inches off the ground, and 3 more times in reverse). The product must meet the safety requirements before and after the test.
Folding Mechanism Safety: All folding parts must have a locking mechanism to prevent accidental folding during normal use. After testing, the locking mechanism must be able to maintain a stable position.
Mechanical Clearance Protection: Clearances between hinges and moving parts must meet anti-pinch design requirements:
If a 3/16 inch (5 mm) diameter metal rod can be inserted into the hinge line clearance, a 1/2 inch (13 mm) diameter rod must also be able to be inserted, to avoid finger entrapment.
The clearance between the wheels and components such as the chassis and fenders must also comply with the 13 mm rod test to eliminate shearing or crushing risks.
Label Durability: Warning labels attached to the product surface must remain firmly in place after testing and cannot easily fall off.
