Recently, a large number of sellers have received notifications from Amazon requesting them to complete Spain weee compliance, and the compliance deadline has been clearly specified: sellers must upload a genuine and valid Spain WEEE compliance registration number by September 30, 2026. If submission is not completed on schedule, Amazon will automatically enroll sellers in the EPR pay-on-behalf service.

Amazon has now issued a notification: sellers must submit their weee registration number by September 30, 2026. For those who fail to submit on time, the platform will automatically register them for the EPR pay-on-behalf service, calculate environmental fees based on sales revenue, deduct them directly from the account, and charge an annual service fee at the same time.

Sellers need to promptly upload their Spain WEEE registration number to the platform upon acquisition; declare and pay recycling fees on time; and affix the "crossed-out wheeled bin" symbol on products.

These 4 Groups of People Must Register for Spain WEEE

WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive) originates from an EU directive. Spain has detailed it into a mandatory recycling system for electrical and electronic products, requiring sellers to be responsible for the "full lifecycle" of products, extending responsibility to the recycling stage after product scrapping, and reducing environmental pollution caused by electronic waste through efficient collection and recycling.

Therefore, all sellers selling electrical and electronic equipment to Spain must comply, including manufacturers, importers, distributors, remote selling sellers (including cross-border e-commerce sellers), etc. Specifically, they are as follows:

• Cross-border direct selling sellers: For example, non-EU enterprises directly selling electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) to Spanish consumers through e-commerce platforms such as Amazon.

• EU domestic brand resellers: Sellers reselling electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) products under their own brand within the territory of the EU.

• Distributors of products without manufacturer identification: Sellers reselling electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) that is not marked with manufacturer information.

• First-batch EU importers: Importers introducing third-country electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) products into the EU market for the first time.

Simply put: all sellers selling electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) on the Amazon Spain store (whether domestic or cross-border), as well as domestic enterprises registered and selling electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) within the territory of Spain, are required to register for Spain WEEE.

The Following Products Must Complete Spain WEEE Compliance

All electrical equipment that operates relying on electric current or electromagnetic fields, or is used for generating, transmitting, and measuring electric and electromagnetic signals, as long as the rated voltage does not exceed 1000V for AC and 1500V for DC, belongs to the mandatory control categories of the Spain weee regulations. Sellers should quickly self-check the following 7 major compliance categories:

Temperature exchange equipment, monitors/screens > 100 cm², lamps, large equipment > 50 cm, small equipment $\le$ 50 cm, small IT and telecommunications equipment $\le$ 50 cm, and large photovoltaic panels > 50 cm.

The scope of coverage includes household (B2C) and professional (B2B) electrical and electronic equipment. By default, dual-use goods are treated as household goods. RefurBIShed electrical and electronic equipment sold in Spain also falls within the applicable scope.

Reminder: If your company is not established in Spain (overseas seller) but sells in the Spanish market, you need to entrust a compliance service provider to complete compliance.

Sellers must submit their WEEE registration number by September 30, 2026. Upon overdue, Amazon will automatically enable the EPR pay-on-behalf service, calculate environmental fees based on sales revenue and deduct them directly from your sales account, while charging the Extended Producer Responsibility pay-on-behalf service fee.

• Self-check categories: Confirm whether the sold products belong to the WEEE regulated scope.

• Regular declaration and fee payment: Implement recycling obligations through an authorized representative or service provider, pay fees on time, and submit annual reports.
