What is the EN 55032:2015 Testing Standard?

Views :
Update time : 2026-08-24

With the continuous integration of audio-visual and information technology products, the old standards that separately managed audio-visual equipment and computer equipment can no longer adapt to composite products such as smart TVs, all-in-one machines, and streaming media terminals. CISPR 32 is a general specification published by the International Special Committee on Radio Interference, and the corresponding harmonized standard implemented in the European Union is en 55032, which is also the core basis for multimedia products to complete ce-emc certification and successfully enter the EU market. The current mainstream effective version is EN 55032:2015+A11:2020, which officially replaced the two old standards, EN 55022 and EN 55013, starting in 2017.

Definition of the en55032 Standard

The en55032 standard is an electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing standard issued by the European Electronics Association (EE). Its main purpose is to ensure that electronic equipment does not generate radiation interference during normal operation, thereby guaranteeing the normal operation of the equipment and the safety of the surrounding environment. This standard applies to all electronic equipment, including audio equipment, video equipment, communication equipment, computer equipment, and so on.

Testing Equipment for the EN55032 Standard

The testing equipment for the EN55032 standard mainly includes signal generators, spectrum analyzers, power amplifiers, antennas, etc.

  • Signal Generator: Mainly used to generate test signals.

  • Spectrum Analyzer: Mainly used to analyze the spectrum characteristics of the test signals.

  • Power Amplifier: Mainly used to amplify the power of the test signals.

  • Antenna: Mainly used to radiate and receive the test signals.

EN55032 Testing Items

EMI (Electromagnetic Interference):

  • Conducted Emission (CE)

  • Radiated Emission (RE)

  • Harmonics & Flicker (en61000-3-2, EN61000-3-3)

EMS (Electromagnetic Susceptibility):

  • Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)

  • Electrical Fast Transient (EFT)

  • S1: Tuner Port Input Interference

  • S2a: Other Port Input Interference

  • S2b: Tuner Port Input Common-Mode Interference

  • 9S3: Radiated Interference

  • S4: Tuner Port Screening Effectiveness

  • S5: Keyed Carrier

What Parts Were Updated in the EN 55032:2015+A11:2020 Standard?

  1. Added more disclaimers and precautions, strengthening users' awareness of safety precautions when using the equipment.

  2. Updated the testing methods to adapt to the use of modern equipment.

  3. Updated the testing requirements for low-power equipment, improving the electromagnetic compatibility of low-power devices.

  4. Updated the testing methods and requirements for radio equipment to adapt to the existing radio equipment on the market.

  5. Formulated new testing methods and requirements for motors with variable frequency drives (VFDs) to evaluate their electromagnetic compatibility.

In conclusion, EN 55032/CISPR 32 has established a unified and modernized interference control framework for multimedia equipment. In the face of consumer electronics with continuous integration and high frequencies, thoroughly understanding the boundaries of the standard, reasonably selecting equipment levels, and standardizing the testing process are indispensable parts for the stable cross-border circulation of products.
