Amazon DV : Adult Bed Safety Rails, Clothing Storage, Walkers

Amazon’s “Direct Verification” program (DV for short) has once again expanded its compliance control scope. Following children’s toys and electric transportation devices, three product categories—adult bed safety rails, clothing storage products, and walkers and walking aids—have been newly added to the mandatory verification scope. This change means that relevant sellers must complete compliance verification through Amazon-accredited third-party testing laboratories and submit the results directly to the Amazon platform. Products that fail to complete verification by the deadline will face removal from the platform.

Policy Changes

Adult Bed Safety Rails

ASTM F3186-17(2021) Standard Safety Specification for Adult Bed Rails

Key testing items:

• Structural Integrity Test: Ensures the bed rail does not break or collaPSE under force.

• Opening/Gap Test: Prevents entrapment of the head, neck, or other body parts (anti-pinch injury).

• Connection Strength Test: Ensures the bed rail is securely attached to the mattress or bed frame without accidental displacement or detachment.

• Load Test: Simulates weight-bearing capacity when an adult leans, pushes, or pulls on the rail.

• Warning Label and Instruction Review: Must include clear installation, usage, and hazard warnings.

Clothing Storage Units

ASTM f2057-23 Standard Safety Specification for Clothing Storage Units

Nearly all free-standing clothing storage units over 30 inches (approximately 76 cm) in height must comply with this standard.

Key testing items:

• Stability Test: Simulates open drawers, loaded clothing, and tilted flooring to ensure the unit does not tip forward. This is the core test.

• Warning Label Requirement: Products must have a permanently affixed anti-tip warning label stating the product must be anchored to the wall.

• Anchoring Device: Products must include reliable anti-tip wall anchoring hardware.

• Drawer Extension and Strength Test: Ensures durability of drawers and slides.

Walkers and Walking Aids

• ISO 11199-3:2020 Walkers—Part 3: Requirements and test methods for wheeled walkers

• ISO 11199-1/2 Walkers: For non-wheeled walkers

• ASTM F3345: Performance standard for walkers with seats

Key testing items:

• Static and Dynamic Load Test: Ensures frame load-bearing capacity at rest and during movement.

• Stability Test: Prevents side or rear tipping during normal use.

• Brake System Test: Ensures effective and reliable brake function.

• Size and Adjustment Test: Ensures adjustable components are secure and do not slip accidentally.

• Fatigue Test: Simulates durability after long-term use.

• Labels and Instructions: Clearly state usage, maximum weight capacity, maintenance, and safety warnings.

FDA 21 CFR Part 890: Regulated as medical devices (generally Class I) with general controls, requiring manufacturer registration and listing, and compliance with general control requirements (e.g., quality systems, labeling, adverse event reporting).

Amazon has issued clear compliance requirements for relevant products in Seller Central. Sellers offering these products must cooperate with Amazon-accredited third-party verification bodies to submit compliance documentation.

This platform initiative aims to advance safety compliance reviews, requiring sellers to proactively demonstrate that their products meet specific safety standards through designated processes during ongoing sales.

Full Operational Process

For affected sellers, following the correct operational process is critical. The entire process must be initiated proactively in the seller backend.

1. Log in to Amazon Seller Central.

2. Navigate sequentially to: Performance > Account Health > Policy Compliance.

3. Click Food and Product Safety Issues; the page will list all ASINs requiring action.

4. Locate the product to be processed and click the Submit button on its right.

5. The system will display two options: Verify your product or Appeal—select Verify your product.

6. Choose an accredited third-party testing laboratory from the list provided by the Amazon system and click “Continue”.

7. Confirm contact information and submit the Test Request Form.

8. Upon successful submission, a unique TRF ID will be generated—save this ID carefully.

The selected laboratory will contact you using this ID and guide you through subsequent compliance document preparation and formal verification arrangements.

Key Points

Understanding the enforcement logic and potential consequences of the new regulation helps sellers take it seriously and respond quickly.

• Verification must be conducted through Amazon officially accredited third-party testing laboratories.

• Sellers cannot upload or submit test reports independently; compliance documents must be submitted directly to the Amazon system by the laboratory.

• Verification is performed on specific triggered ASINs; sellers must closely monitor backend notifications.

• The platform sets a clear completion deadline for each triggered ASIN.

• Time is the most critical factor: Sellers must complete the full process—from receiving notification, selecting a laboratory, preparing materials, to finishing verification—before the deadline.

Failure to complete verification on time will result in mandatory removal of the ASIN until compliance is restored, directly impacting sales and account performance.

Practical Recommendations

In response to this compliance upgrade, sellers should take proactive measures to turn passivity into initiative and make compliance a long-term advantage.

• Immediately audit products in your store to confirm whether they include adult bed safety rails, clothing storage units, walkers, or walking aids. Check the Account Health page daily to avoid missing notifications.

• Prepare common compliance documents in advance, such as product photos, label information, instructions, and existing test reports, to respond quickly to laboratory requirements and shorten overall processing time.

• Include compliance costs in product pricing as a necessary operational expense.

• Establish a long-term product compliance management archive, which not only addresses Amazon reviews but also prepares you for entry into other markets or platforms.

This compliance upgrade is a clear signal that the platform is strengthening consumer product safety management. Sellers who adapt early and achieve compliance early will gain a more advantageous position in future platform competition.
