On JULy 11, 2024, China's JJR Laboratory successfully expanded its testing scope to include the new e-cigarette standard iec 60335-2-120:2024, becoming the first CB-recognized testing laboratory worldwideto be accREDited for this standard.

Standard IEC 60335-2-120:2024

This standard addresses the safety of aerosol inhalation devices, specifically single-phase devices with a rated voltage not exceeding 250V, including both DC-powered and battery-powered equipment.

Applicable Product Scope:

1. Electrically heated aerosol-generating devices

2. Personal e-cigarette apparatuses

The standard applies to, but is not limited to:

1. Vapor and aerosol electrically heated devices

2. Electronic (non-)nicotine delivery systems

3. Heat-not-burn devices

> Note:This standard does not applyto consumables used in electrically heated aerosol devices, such as e-liquids or other inhaled aerosol substances, nor does it cover emissions.

Background

1. On February 8, 2024, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)released the product safety-specific standard for electrically heated aerosol devices: IEC 60335-2-120:2024.

2. On March 4, 2024, the standard was officially added to the iecee cb schemescope.

Before the release of this standard:

For years, such products lacked a dedicated Part 2 standard under IEC 60335. Consequently, many cb certificates for electrically heated aerosol devices were issued based only on IEC 60335-1.

However, according to Clause 10.3 of IECEE OD-2037:

1. Once a Part 2 (product-specific) standard is published, products must be retested according to that specific standard.

2. Existing CB certificates must be updated promptly to comply with the new standard.

3. After IEC 60335-2-120:2024is included in the IECEE CB Scheme, issuing certificates based solely on IEC 60335-1is no longer allowed.
