Amazon US Infant Carrier Certification Testing Guide

Infant carriers have long been popULar in the maternal and baby care market. However, different types of carriers, despite having similar functions, require different testing standards. How can you determine what certification is requiRED for your carrier products? Below is a summary from China's JJR Laboratory of Amazon US safety requirements for different types of infant carriers.

 

Sling Carriers – Safety Requirements

1. Product Definition

Sling carriers are designed to support up to two children in an upright or reclined position against the caregiver’s torso. They are intended for infants (full-term newborns) up to 35 pounds unless the manufacturer specifies a higher weight limit. Sling carriers are made of fabric and come in various unstructured designs, ranging from hammock-like styles to long strips of material wrapped around the caregiver’s body.

 

This policy does not apply to soft infant and toddler carriers.

 

2. Safety Requirements

Amazon requires all sling carriers to be tested and comply with specific regulations and standards, including:

 

- Mandatory Compliance:

- cpsia (Lead and Phthalates)

- CPSA Section 14(a)(5) (Tracking Label)

- 16 CFR Part 1130 (Durable Infant or Toddler Products Consumer Registration Requirements)

 

- One of the following safety standards:

- 16 CFR Part 1228 (Sling Carrier Safety Standard)

- ASTM F2907-21 (Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Sling Carriers) and 16 CFR Part 1228.2(b)(1) (Labeling for Seams, if applicable)

- ASTM F2907-22 (Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Sling Carriers) and 16 CFR Part 1228.2(b)(1) (Labeling for Seams, if applicable)

 

3. Required Information

To comply with Amazon's regulations, sellers must provide:

 

- Company name (if applicable) and seller ID

- Contact information (email and phone number)

- A list of all sling carriers sold on Amazon

- Product names or model numbers as listed on the product detail page

- User manuals and instructions

- Images of product labels, safety information, compliance markings, hazard warnings, and all sides of product packaging

- A test report from a CPSC-accredited laboratory demonstrating compliance with the above regulations, including images proving the tested product matches the listed item

- Proof of compliance through product images or test reports for:

- Registration card requirements (16 CFR Part 1130)

- Mandatory tracking label requirements (CPSA Section 14(a)(5))

- Warning and hazard labeling requirements (ASTM F2907-21 Sec. 8, ASTM F2907-22 Sec. 8, or 16 CFR Part 1228, if applicable)

- A Children’s Product Certificate (CPC) for all sling carriers sold on Amazon

 

Soft Infant and Toddler Carriers – Safety Requirements

1. Product Definition

Soft infant and toddler carriers are made of sewn fabric and designed to keep a child (typically a full-term newborn to toddler) in an upright position for close caregiver contact. These carriers are worn using one or two shoulder straps.

 

Products commonly referred to as "sling carriers" are not classified as soft infant and toddler carriers and are not covered under this policy.

 

2. Safety Requirements

Amazon requires all soft infant and toddler carriers to be tested and comply with specific regulations and standards, including:

 

- Mandatory Compliance:

- CPSIA (Lead and Phthalates)

- CPSA Section 14(a)(5) (Tracking Label)

- 16 CFR Part 1130 (Durable Infant or Toddler Products Consumer Registration Requirements)

 

- One of the following safety standards:

- ASTM F2236-14, ASTM F2236-16, or ASTM F2236-16a (Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Soft Infant and Toddler Carriers)

Frame Child Carriers – Safety Requirements

1. Product Definition

Frame child carriers are designed to carry a child in an upright position on the caregiver’s back. These carriers typically consist of fabric sewn onto a metal tube or other frame structure. They are intended for carrying children who can sit upright unassisted and weigh between 16 and 50 pounds.

 

2. Safety Requirements

Amazon requires all frame child carriers to be tested and comply with specific regulations and standards, including:

 

- Mandatory Compliance:

- CPSIA (Lead and Phthalates)

- 16 CFR Part 1130 (Durable Infant or Toddler Products Consumer Registration Requirements)

- CPSA Section 14(a)(5) (Tracking Label)

 

- One of the following safety standards:

- 16 CFR Part 1230 (Frame Child Carrier Safety Standard)
