Canada Children’s Pajamas SOR/2016-169 Standard

In February 2019, the Canadian Ministry of Health issued the latest Children’s Pajamas RegULations Guide (SOR/2016-169). These guidelines provide information on the flammability safety requirements for children’s pajamas in sizes 0 to 14X. They cover bathrobes, pajamas, and dressing gowns that are manufactuRED, imported, advertised, or sold in Canada.

 

Loose-fitting Pajamas:

1. Children’s pajamas, nightgowns, bathrobes, dressing gowns, loungewear, robes, loose-fitting pajamas, and doll pajamas for infants in sizes up to 14X.

2. Loose-fitting pajamas do not include:

 - Pajamas specifically designed for infants weighing no more than 7 kg.

 - Pajamas designed specifically for hospital use.

 - POLO loungewear or pajama pants.

 

Fitted Pajamas

Any children’s pajamas that are not loose-fitting and are up to size 14X. Fitted pajamas include:

 

1. Pajamas specifically designed for infants weighing no more than 7 kg.

2. Pajamas designed for hospital use.

3. POLO loungewear.

4. Pajama pants.

 

Amazon Requirements for Children’s Pajamas

Amazon requires all children’s pajamas to be tested and meet the following regulations, standards, and requirements:

 

- SOR/2016-169 (Children’s Pajamas Regulations)

- SOR/2018-83 (Total Lead Content - Canadian Consumer Product Safety Act - Lead Content)

- SOR/2016-188 (Canadian Consumer Product Safety Act - Phthalates Regulations)

- Textile Labeling and Advertising Regulations

 

Required Information for Your Product Detail Page:

Your product detail page must include the following:

 

1. Model number, part number, or product ID.

2. Manufacturer or private brand holder (distributor) name.

3. The age range listed on the product detail page must be consistent with the age range listed in the test report.

 

Required Product Images:

You must submit clear and identifiable product images that include the following:

 

1. Product labels, relevant safety information, compliance marks, hazard warnings, and views of the product or product packaging.

2. The images must demonstrate that the product is the same as the tested product and matches the one listed on the product detail page.

3. Model number, part number, or product ID.

4. Manufacturer or private brand holder (distributor) name and address.

5. Product manuals and instructions.

 

What Documents Are Required for SOR/2016-169 Certification?

1. Completed application form.

2. Product samples.

3. Testing arranged through the China JJR laboratory.

4. Draft report after passing the tests.

5. Confirmation of the formal report.
