Electric Bicycle Certification in New South Wales, Australia

The Government of New South Wales, Australia has recently issued the Mandatory High-Risk Battery Products Notice, planning to implement the new requirements in phases over 18 months.

It is specifically divided into three phases:

1. From 1 February 2025

All mandatory products must comply with the specified standards, but testing, certification or marking is not requiRED. These products mainly include high-risk battery products such as E-BIKE batteries.

2. From 1 August 2025

Sellers must ensure that products have been tested and obtained approval certificates before selling mandatory products. Marking requirements may be exempted at this stage.

3. From 1 February 2026

All mandatory products must be tested, certified and marked in accordance with the Gas and Electricity (Consumer Safety) Act before they can be legally sold.

Compliance standards for electric bicycles, electric scooters, self-balancing scooters and other products are also clearly regULated.

From 1 August 2025

Mandatory Australian safety certification.

Mandatory marking of certification numbers on products.
