EU Compliance Testing for Cribs

Update time : 2026-04-29

Why Do Cribs Require ce marking for EU Export?

As infant and toddler sleeping products, cribs fall under the regulation of the General Product Safety Regulation (gpsr, EU 2023/988). Officially effective on December 13, 2024, this regulation replaces the former General Product Safety Directive (GPSD, 2001/95/EC).

All cribs placed on the EU market must meet the safety requirements of relevant
Harmonised Standards and complete the CE certification process. Non-compliant products will face risks including customs detention, market recalls and legal liabilities.

Key High-Risk Hazards of Cribs

Finger & limb entrapment injuries (unqualified rail gap size)

Head trapping risks (non-compliant structural opening dimensions)

Children falling due to insufficient product structural strength

Choking hazards from small parts (detachable components falling off)

Entanglement risks (excessively long ropes and straps)

Chemical hazards (excessive formaldehyde and heavy metals)

FAQ

Are EU crib testing and CE certification the same?

No. Testing is the core foundation of CE certification. Complete CE procedures also include technical documentation compilation, DoC signing and other compliance steps.

Can EN standard test reports be directly used for CE application?

Yes, on the premise that reports are issued by an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory and adopt harmonised standards listed in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU).

Is Notified Body intervention mandatory for crib CE certification?

Cribs are general products under GPSR. Module A (internal production control & self-declaration) is generally applicable without Notified Body involvement. Third-party audit may be required for individual high-risk scenarios.

Is full re-testing necessary after non-compliant results?

Not necessarily. Only differential tests for modified structures or materials are required for partial adjustments.

Are JJR LAB test reports recognized by EU clients?

With CNAS and CMA accreditation, JJR LABs test reports fully comply with ISO 17025 requirements and are widely accepted by EU importers and market supervision authorities.
