This standard is expected to come into effect in 2025 and will replace the existing version EN 71-3:2019+A1:2021.

The EU toy safety standard EN 71-3 Migration of Certain Elements is a fundamental requirement for toy products in the EU. It addresses the safety of the migration of heavy metals and specific cheMICals in toys.
The updates in EN 71-3:2019+A2:2024 Safety of Toys - Part 3: Migration of Certain Elements include adjustments to the wording and referenced content, as well as modifications to certain sampling and testing methods.
- Removal of the de-waxing step in the pretreatment process;
- Supplementary revisions to the testing methods for composite materials;
- Adjustments to the migration testing methods for Category I and Category II materials;
- Specific clarification of the rationale for calcULating the migration limits of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) based on total migration of Cr.
