Mandatory Standard for Portable Power Banks GB 47372-2026 Issued
According to public information, the new national standard for portable power banks, Safety Technical Specification for Portable Power Banks (GB 47372-2026), was officially issued on March 31, 2026, and will be mandatorily implemented on April 1, 2027, with a 12-month transition period.
• Nail Penetration Test: Fully charged cells shall be vertically penetrated at their geometric center by a 4 mm diameter steel needle at a speed of 20±2 mm/s and held for 5 minutes. No fire, explosion, or leakage is permitted.
• Thermal Abuse Test: Exposure to 135℃±2℃ for 60 minutes; no fire or explosion allowed.
• Overcharge Test: Charging to 1.4 times the rated voltage; no fire, explosion, leakage, or rupture permitted.
• Material Restrictions: Second-life, recycled, or refurBIShed cells are strictly prohibited. Electrolyte moisture content ≤ 20 ppm, hydrofluoric acid (HF) content ≤ 100 ppm.
• Cycle Life: After ≥ 300 charge-discharge cycles, capacity retention ≥ 60%. Cells must pass safety retesting after aging.
• Mechanical Tests: New drop, crush, and heavy impact tests for the complete unit. Structure shall remain intact, protection functions normal, and no leakage shall occur.
• Housing Flame Retardancy: Housing materials must meet V-0 flammability rating, self-extinguish within 3 seconds, and produce no molten drips.
• Capacity Labeling: Rated capacity (not cell capacity) must be clearly marked. For example, a 10000 mAh cell shall have a rated capacity ≥ 6000 mAh at 5V/3A output.
• Six-fold protection functions are mandatory: over-voltage, over-current, over-temperature, short-circuit, over-charge, and over-discharge. Surface temperature shall not exceed limits under fast-charging conditions.
• Two-stage independent protection circuits (cell level + unit level) are required to prevent safety incidents caused by single-point failure.
• The housing shall be permanently marked with: product name, model, rated capacity, manufacturer, full name of contract manufacturer, battery material type, production date, recommended safe service life (normally 5 years), and other information.
• Abnormal data records shall be readable via display screen, APP, QR code, or other methods to enable full traceability.
A: Power banks that consumers have already purchased and hold valid CCC certification may still be carried on board normally, provided they comply with current civil aviation regulations after the new standard is implemented.
It is emphasized that improper use of power banks — such as collision, severe crushing, or overcharging — increases safety risks. Passengers are advised not to carry damaged or faulty power banks on aircraft.
This standard aims to comprehensively improve the safety performance of portable power banks, eliminate low-quality production capacity, and protect consumer safety.
During the transition period, enterprises shall complete product upgrades and certification renewal.
Starting April 1, 2027, non-compliant products will be prohibited from production, sale, and import.
