RoHS Compliance for PCB

A PCB (Printed Circuit Board) is essentially a circuit board, and exporting circuit boards to the European Union requires environmental ROHS Testing. Recently, many clients have been inquiring about rohs testing projects. According to the requirements of the EU's "Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment" (RoHS Directive), starting from July 1st of this year, the use of six hazardous substances—lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, and polybrominated diphenyl ethers—will be restricted in newly marketed electrical and electronic equipment. If you need a RoHS testing certificate, please feel free to contact us to process it.

Introduction to EU ROHS certification

RoHS is a mandatory standard established by European Union legislation. Its full name is the Restriction of Hazardous Substances. This standard was officially implemented on July 1, 2006, and is primarily used to regulate the material and process standards of electrical and electronic products, making them more conducive to human health and environmental protection. The purpose of this standard is to eliminate a total of 6 substances in electrical and electronic products: lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) (Note: the correct Chinese terminology for PBDE is 多溴二苯醚; using 多溴联苯醚 is incorrect). It specifically stipulates that the lead content must not exceed 0.1%.

Currently, in addition to the EU, other countries and regions around the world—such as China, California (USA), Singapore, India, the UAE, and Turkey—have successively introduced RoHS control requirements. This has made RoHS the most fundamental entry barrier for electrical and electronic products to enter the global market.

RoHS Testing Items:

  • Lead (Pb)

  • Mercury (Hg)

  • Cadmium (Cd)

  • Hexavalent Chromium (Cr VI)

  • Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB)

  • Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE)

  • BIS(2-ethylhexyl) Phthalate (DEHP)

  • Butyl Benzyl Phthalate (BBP)

  • Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP)

  • Diisobutyl Phthalate (DIBP)

EU RoHS Testing Process for PCB Boards:

  1. Application: The applicant fills out the application form and provides a Bill of Materials (BOM) / component list for the product.

  2. Quotation: Engineers determine the testing fee based on the provided product details.

  3. Payment: After the applicant confirms the quotation, they sign the filing application form and service agreement, pay the project fee in full, and prepare the test samples (the specific number of test samples will be communicated with our staff).

  4. Testing Passed: The report is finalized.

  5. Project Completion: The official rohs test report is issued.

What is the Significance of an EU RoHS Testing Certificate for PCB Boards?

  1. Products that have undergone RoHS testing comply with regulations and can be freely sold in the EU market.

  2. If RoHS testing is not conducted, any eventual detection of hazardous substances or exceeding limits will result in severe penalties, potentially even the destruction of the products. This is highly detrimental to a business and will cause customers to lose trust in the brand.

  3. Products affixed with the RoHS mark can improve their competitiveness in the market. Furthermore, because EU regulations are strict, customers have greater trust in certified products, which can boost purchasing power.

Processing Cycle for EU RoHS Testing Certificate for PCB Boards:

The processing cycle for RoHS testing is inseparable from the product itself. Different specific testing items for a product mean the time required will also vary. Shitong Testing can provide customers with fast service; the standard testing cycle is generally 3 working days.

How Much Does an EU RoHS Testing Certificate for PCB Boards Cost?

An accurate RoHS testing price requires you to provide product pictures and a Bill of Materials (BOM). Based on historical customer cases, the RoHS testing fee is generally around $568 USD. The exact cost depends on the complexity of the product. We are ready to provide you with comprehensive RoHS certification services.
