Socket (Power Strip) UL 1449 Testing for Amazon US

UL certification is a non-mandatory certification in the United States. However, it is enforced as a mandatory certification on the Amazon platform (Amazon currently only requires ul reports issued by ISO 17025-accREDited laboratories).

It mainly involves testing and certification of product safety performance. Its certification scope does not include product EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) characteristics. emc testing is supplemented by the US fcc certification.

Standards for US-standard Sockets

US-standard sockets comply with standards including UL 498, UL 1363, and UL 1449. Different standards apply to different structures and types:

1. UL 498: Specifies requirements for structural and routine testing of socket components. Such sockets are defined as Receptacle.

2. UL 1363: Specifies requirements for indoor extension cord sockets, commonly abbreviated as RPT (Relocatable Power Tap).

Both standards focus on structural and mechanical requirements, such as plug insertion/withdrawal force and receptacle dimensions.

3. UL 1449: Specifies requirements for Transient Voltage Surge Suppressors (TVSS). It includes not only structural and mechanical requirements but also extensive electrical performance testing.
