Recently, a large number of Amazon sellers have received official email notifications from the platform.
The email states that companies not established in Italymust submit a valid Italian weee registration numberfor the sale of electronic and electrical (WEEE) products for the year 2025 by December 31, 2025.
If the submission is not completed on time, Amazon will automatically enroll sellers in the EPR pay-on-behalf service.
This requirement is not new. In fact, Italian law has long specified that producers of electrical and electronic equipment (including foreign companies selling cross-border)must complete Italian EPR registrationin order to legally place relevant products on the Italian market.
This Amazon notice represents a further enforcement of local regULations. Sellers must pay close attention to avoid compliance risks.
According to Italian regulations, electronic and electrical equipment requiring registration mainly falls into the following categories.
Sellers should review their products carefully:
- Screens, monitors, and related equipment with a surface area greater than 100 cm²
- Lamps / gas-discharge lamps
- Large appliances (any external dimension exceeding 50 cm) — excluding products already listed in categories 1, 2, or 3
- Small equipment (any external dimension not exceeding 50 cm) — excluding products in categories 1, 2, 3, or 6
- Small IT and telecommunication devices (any external dimension not exceeding 50 cm)
Similar to France’s EPR requirements, foreign sellers (including those selling through Amazon or other cross-border platforms) must appoint an authorized representative located in Italywhen selling electronic and electrical equipment to the Italian market, even in cases of remote sales.
The authorized representative can be either a legal entity or a natural person within Italy.
Their key responsibilities include:
- Completing WEEE registration on behalf of the foreign seller
- Submitting regular compliance reports
- Fulfilling product recycling obligations
They serve as the critical link between the seller and the Italian environmental authorities.
1. Registration
Engage a compliance agency (e.g., JJR) to complete the official registration in the Italian WEEE Producers’ Register and obtain a unique registration number.
2. Reporting
The agency manages the producer register on behalf of the seller and regularly submits sales data and other requiRED reports in accordance with regulations.
3. Recycling
Through the authorized representative or compliance agency, ensure fulfillment of product recycling obligations to guarantee environmental compliance throughout the product life cycle.
- Information Consistency
The company name, address, and other details provided during registration must match those on the Amazon store or other sales platforms. Any discrepancies may result in verification failure.
- Regular Reporting
Sales data must be submitted and relevant fees paid on time. Late submission can lead to the invalidation of the registration number and potential fines from the Italian environmental authorities.
- Product Classification
If the electrical equipment contains batteries (e.g., rechargeable small appliances), both EEE (Electronic and Electrical Equipment)and Batterycategories must be registered to avoid missing compliance items.
- Service Provider Selection
When engaging a third-party service, ensure their coverage includes the entire process—Registration, Reporting, and Recycling—to prevent incomplete compliance that could hinder product listing.
(China-based JJR offers full-process services.)
For sellers needing EU EPR (including Italian WEEE) registration and reporting, JJR stands out for “credential assurance” and “efficiency,” helping sellers reduce risks and capture market opportunities:
1. Strong Credentials – Eliminating Invalid Registration Risks
- JJR is a well-known compliance company recognized by environmental authorities in Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, and other countries.
- Officially certified SPN (Service Provider Network) partner for Amazon, eBay, and other major cross-border platforms.

- Registration documents and reports issued by JJR are 100% accepted by all platforms, preventing invalid registrations or store restrictions caused by non-compliant agencies.
