EN 581 is a standard established by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) regarding the mechanical and physical performance requirements for outdoor furniture. It specifies various requirements such as durability, stability, resistance to static loads, and corrosion resistance, among others. This standard is crucial for ensuring the quality and safety of outdoor furniture and is also a necessary condition for products to obtain CE certification.
The standard applies to outdoor seating, tables, umbrellas, awnings, and other general safety requirements. It mainly covers outdoor furniture for camping, gardens, and public places. This standard applies to furniture for adULts, and children's furniture is recommended to refer to the testing methods or relevant toy standards.
Note: This standard does not apply to permanently fixed outdoor furniture, furniture for high-use public areas, or street furniture.
EN 581 is divided into three parts, defining the mechanical safety requirements and testing methods for this product category:
1. General safety requirements
2. Mechanical safety requirements and testing methods for seating
3. Mechanical safety requirements and testing methods for tables
EN 581-1: General safety requirements for outdoor seating and tables for camping and domestic contract use. Excludes movable interior furnishings, coverings, and permanently fixed furniture.
EN 581-2: Mechanical safety requirements and testing methods for outdoor seating for camping, adult domestic and contract use, regardless of materials, design/structure, or manufacturing process. EN 581-2 does not apply to outdoor furniture for strict contract use that may require higher requirements, nor does it apply to movable interior furnishings and coverings, permanently fixed furniture, or street furniture. The testing requirements in EN 581-2 are based on usage by persons weighing up to 110 kilograms. It does not include information on aging and degradation caused by light, temperature, and humidity.
EN 581-3: Excludes tables using glass in their construction. EN 581-3 does not apply to outdoor furniture for strict contract use that may require higher requirements, nor does it apply to street furniture and furniture permanently fixed to the ground or walls.
According to the EN 581 standard, outdoor furniture must undergo multiple tests in areas such as strength, stability, abrasion resistance, aging resistance, weather resistance, and cheMICal composition to ensure its durability and safety. Testing items include static load tests, impact tests, stability tests, corrosion tests, and several other stages, each with corresponding detection standards to ensure the product meets European standards.
1. Determine the product testing items.
2. Complete the testing application form, specify the testing standards, and identify the testing age group.
3. Send the samples for testing: The applicant arranges for the samples to be sent.
4. The JJR laboratory in China arranges testing, typically within 5-7 working days.
5. Once the tests are passed, the report is issued.
