FCC Certification is the Pass to Enter the U.S. Market for Electronic and Electrical Products
It is a mandatory certification.
After the issuance of the latest regulation FCC10-208, FCC certification is divided into two main categories:
- FCC-sdoc Certification
- FCC-ID Certification
FCC certification refers to the requirements set by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)for radio frequency devices and telecommunications equipment. FCC is an independent agency in the United States, responsible for managing and regulating radio frequencies and telecommunications equipment to ensure they do not cause interference with other wireless devices or users, and comply with U.S. communication regulations and standards.
- fcc sdocensures the compliance and electromagnetic compatibility of electronic devices to reduce interference and protect user safety and experience.
- fcc idapplies to products that use wireless technology or frequencies, including but not limited to wireless communication devices, Wi-Fi devices, Bluetooth devices, remote controls, and wireless audio equipment.
FCC certification has two main types: FCC SDoC (Supplier's Declaration of Conformity)and FCC ID (FCC Certification).
- FCC SDoC: Suitable for general electronic products without wireless functions, such as electronic scales, humidifiers, robotic vacuums, fans, etc.
- FCC ID: Suitable for products with wireless transmission frequencies, such as Bluetooth devices, Wi-Fi devices, wireless alarms, radio communication devices, mobile phones, computers, etc.
> Note: Some e-commerce platforms may require both FCC ID and FCC SDoC reports for wireless products.
According to U.S. regulations, all electronic products, whether intentionally (FCC ID) or unintentionally (FCC SDoC) emitting radio frequencies, must include “Information to User”in the user manual.
For relevant electronic devices or peripherals, the user manual should include the following or similar statement prominently in the main text:
> Note: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation.
The manual should warn users that any changes or modifications not expressly approved by the responsible compliance party may void the user’s authority to operate the device:
> Important: Change or modifications not expressly approved by the manufacturer responsible for compliance could void the user's authority to operate the equipment.

After understanding FCC regulations, include the above compliance information in both printed and electronic user manuals.
Non-compliance may affect the product's normal sales on platforms.
FCC certification is generally valid indefinitely. However, any changes that may affect product compliance (such as circuit redesign, component replacement, or software updates) may require resubmission for re-certification.
If product information (color, model, etc.) or company information (registered address, etc.) changes, FCC must be notified. If the changes require re-certification, a new FCC ID will be issued. Carefully review product information before official submission.
1. fcc logo is optional for SDoC products. According to FCC regulation §2.1074, it is voluntary under the SDoC procedure.
2. SDoC requires a declaration from a responsible party for sale. The responsible party can be the manufacturer, assembler, importer, retailer, or authorized entity. FCC requirements:
- Must be a U.S.-based company.
- Must provide products, test reports, and records during FCC market inspections to ensure compliance.
- Must include the declaration with the device documentation.
3. Declaration documents must accompany the product and include:
- Product information (name, model, etc.)
- FCC compliance warning (varies by product)
- U.S. responsible party information (company name, address, contact info)
1. After obtaining FCC certification, products may use the FCC mark and relevant statements. FCC ID products must display the fcc id number on the product. It can be labeled, engraved, or electronically displayed. The FCC ID must be clearly visible and readable without magnification, for example:
FCC ID: XXXXXXXXX
> Note: The prefix must be uppercase “FCC ID” and follow the correct format.
2. User manuals should include the warning about unauthorized modifications:
> Important: Change or modifications not expressly approved by the manufacturer responsible for compliance could void the user's authority to operate the equipment.
Applicants must retain all documents and records related to certification, including test reports, technical files, and application forms, for potential FCC inspection and traceability.
