Update time : 2025-07-07

With Prime Dayjust around the corner, e-commerce sellers are gearing up for this annual shopping frenzy. However, many sellers have recently received product compliance review notices from platforms — especially for electronic products containing button or coin batteries, which have become a key focus of these reviews.

Compliance Challenges for Sellers

1. Strict compliance requirements

Sellers must promptly obtain and provide the requiRED certifications to avoid disruptions to sales and product listings.

2. Time pressure

Platforms require compliance documents to be uploaded within a specified timeframe, increasing the urgency and complexity for sellers.

3. Risk of econoMIC loss

Failure to submit compliance documents on time may resULt in product removal, wasted advertising expenses, and direct financial loss for the seller.

GCC, ul4200a Certification, and Warning Labels

1. ul4200A Certification

This is a key certification for meeting safety performance requirements. It covers various tests, including short circuit, overcharging, and crushing. The label assessment is especially critical to ensure product safety.

2. Warning label requirements

According to 16 cfr 1263, consumer products containing button batteries must have prominent warning labels highlighting the swallowing hazard and the need to keep the product away from children.

The font size and label placement must strictly comply with regulations to ensure consumers can see it immediately.

Packaging label requirements:

If there is external packaging, the label should be placed on the principal display panel.

If there is no external packaging, the label must be on the hang tag or the product itself, and it must be clearly visible.

3. gcc certificate

The GCC (General Certificate of Conformity) is mandatory proof of compliance that sellers must provide. The certificate must include key information such as product details, applicable regulations (e.g., 16 CFR 1263), and testing laboratory credentials.

The certificate is signed by the manufacturer or importer based on the UL4200A test report to ensure compliance.

U.S. Button Battery Regulatory Requirements

1. Reese’s Law (H.R. 5313)— Effective August 2022

This law aims to protect children from injuries caused by button batteries and requires stricter safety standards.

2. CPSC Mandatory Standards — Effective September 2023

Under Reese’s Law, the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) implemented mandatory safety standards and labeling requirements for consumer products containing button or coin batteries, raising the compliance bar further.
