Update time : 2025-09-18

To successfULly export juicers to the European and U.S. markets, products must pass a series of rigorous safety, performance, and compliance tests.

JJR LAB provides comprehensive testing services for juicers entering these markets, helping clients quickly meet international compliance standards.

Why Choose the European and U.S. Markets?

Consumers in Europe and the U.S. have high demands for quality of life, with strong demand for small home appliances such as juicers. However, these markets also set strict entry barriers:

- Safety Standards:e.g., ce marking in the EU, UL standards in the U.S., ensuring product safety.

- Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC):Products must not interfere with other devices and must resist external interference.

- Environmental Directives:e.g., EU RoHS and REACH, which restrict hazardous substances.

- Energy Efficiency Requirements:Some regions mandate specific labeling for energy consumption.

Key Tests Required for Juicer Exports

European Union Requirements: “Safety + Environment + Compliance”

1. Mandatory Basis: CE certification (The “Passport” to Enter the EU)

CE certification is mandatory for electrical products in the EU. For juicers, the following tests are required:

- LVD – low voltage directive (2014/35/EU)

- Purpose:Ensure electrical safety, prevent electric shock, fire, etc.

- Tests Include:

1)        Protection against electric shock (insulation, grounding, plug/socket safety)

2)        Electrical strength (insulation’s ability to withstand voltage surges)

3)        Temperature rise (limits on motor, housing, power cord temperatures)

4)        Mechanical strength (housing impact resistance, durability of components)

- EMC – Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (2014/30/EU)

- Purpose:Ensure products don’t interfere with other electronics and can resist external interference.

- Tests Include:

a)        Radiated emissions (limit electromagnetic radiation affecting TVs, phones, etc.)

b)       Conducted emissions (limit interference transmitted via power lines)

c)        Immunity tests (simulate lightning, grid fluctuations, etc. to ensure normal operation)

2. Environmental Compliance: RoHS 2.0 Directive (2011/65/EU)

- Purpose:Restrict hazardous substances in electronics, protect health and the environment.

- Scope:Entire juicer and components (motor, housing, PCB, power cord, etc.).

- Restricted Substances (10 total):Lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, PBBs, PBDEs, DEHP, BBP, DBP, DIBP.

- Limits:Cadmium ≤100 ppm; others ≤1000 ppm.

3. Chemical Compliance: reach regulation (EC 1907/2006)

- Purpose:Control chemical production, import, and usage; assess risks to health and the environment.

- Scope:All chemicals in the juicer (plasticizers, solvents, lubricants, etc.).

- Key Requirements:

- Products containing restricted substances (Annex XVII)must comply with limits.

- Substances ≥1 ton/year must be registered with ECHA.

- If containing SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern):

- >0.1% concentration and >1 ton/year → notification obligation applies.

4. Food Contact Safety: EU Regulation No. 10/2011

- Purpose:Ensure food-contact parts (juice cup, blade, seals, etc.) do not leach harmful substances.

- Tests Include:

- Migration testing (simulate acidic, oily, watery foods for harmful substance migration: heavy metals, BPA, plasticizers).

- Sensory testing (no odor, no discoloration, no effect on food flavor/appearance).

- Material compliance (only materials from the authorized substance list, e.g., specific plastics, stainless steel grades).

U.S. Requirements: “Safety + EMC + Food Contact”

1. Electrical Safety: UL certification (Voluntary but Market-Required)

- Purpose:UL is the most recognized safety certification in the U.S. Though not legally mandatory, retailers and platforms (e.g., Amazon) require it.

- Key Standard:UL 982 Household and Commercial Electric Food-Processing Appliances.

- Tests Include:

1)        Protection against electric shock (grounding, insulation)

2)        Fire safety (flame resistance of housing, wire heat resistance, motor overheating protection)

3)        Mechanical safety (blade protection, part strength, misuse prevention design)

4)        Reliability (continuous operation, durability tests)

2. Electromagnetic Compatibility: FCC Certification (Mandatory)

- Purpose:Control electromagnetic emissions to avoid interference with U.S. communication systems.

- Applicable Standards:

- fcc part 15 (Unintentional Radiators):Digital circuits in juicers tested for radiated and conducted emissions.

- Wireless Functions (e.g., Bluetooth):Must also comply with FCC Part 15C/D RF tests.

3. Food Contact Safety: FDA Compliance (Mandatory)

- Purpose:Ensure food-contact parts meet U.S. food safety standards, regulated by the FDA.

- Tests Include:

- Material compliance:Plastics, metals, rubbers must comply with 21 CFRrequirements (e.g., plastics → 21 CFR 177).

- Migration testing:Verify harmful substances (heavy metals, additives) do not leach into food above safety limits.
