The fcc recently revised KDB 388624 D02v18, introducing a new category called "MODLIM" for Limited Modular Approvals (LMA).
A limited modular transmitter refers to a single or split modular transmitter that meets some, but not all, of the requirements specified in FCC Part 15.212(A)(1)(i)-(vii). Modules that do not satisfy shielding, buffered modulation/data input, or power regulation requirements can be approved by a TCB as a limited module.
Manufacturers must include a description of recommended methods to ensure host compliance with requirements in their certification applications, with the format being flexible. They must also design a test strategy and obtain approval through a PAG (Pre-Approval Guidance) consultation. Once approved, this approval can be shared with other modules using similar test methods.

Upon receiving a complete application, the TCB must review the evidence of PAG approval and relevant FCC correspondence. Before formal approval, the TCB must submit the TCB PAG to the FCC and obtain authorization. The PAG approval process may extend by 1-2 weeks.
It is important to note that certain wireless products cannot be approved as modules. For details, refer to the FCC's list of prohibited devices and category codes.
