UL1647 is a mandatory safety standard established by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) for electric massagers and fitness equipment. It aims to ensure that products meet strict requirements for electrical safety, mechanical stability, and material flame resistance, thereby preventing risks such as electric shock, overheating, or fire. The standard applies to devices with a rated voltage ≤ 250V, covering products such as massage guns, massage chairs, vibration fitness devices, and exercise bikes. Compliance with UL1647 is a key requirement for product entry into North American e-commerce platforms like Amazon and TikTok.

Scope of UL1647:

1. UL1647 applies to electric massagers and fitness equipment, including massage vibrators, exercise bikes, vibrating chairs, and massage chairs.

2. These requirements also apply to electric massagers and fitness equipment whose working parts are driven by electrical devices.

3. These requirements do not apply to appliances with a rated voltage higher than 250V.

4. If a product includes features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems not coveRED or differing from this safety standard, and these may cause fire, electric shock, or other hazards, additional tests for components and the complete product should be appropriately added according to the intent of this standard to ensure compliance. If these features or systems are proven to be reasonable, revisions to this standard and corresponding test methods should be proposed and incorporated.

 

Main UL1647 Test Items:

1. Electrical Safety Tests:

 Leakage current test, leakage current test after exposure to moisture, inrush current test, and dielectric strength test — ensuring no electric shock risk under humid or abnormal operating conditions.

2. Mechanical and Temperature Tests:

 Power cord strain test, bending test, and surface temperature test — verifying structural stability and heat resistance.

3. Operational Reliability:

 Normal operation test and abnormal operation test (e.g., overload operation) — evaluating safety under extreme conditions.

 

UL1647 Certification Process:

1. Fill out the application form.

2. Provide product documentation.

3. Send product samples.

4. Complete testing successfully.

5. Obtain the ul report/certification.
