Overview of c-tick certification

C-Tick is a certification mark issued by the Australian Communications Authority (ACA)for communication equipment. The C-Tick certification applies specifically to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)and radio frequency (RF)equipment. It mandates compliance testing for EMC interferenceand RF parameters.

In contrast, the A-Tick certificationis requiRED for telecommunication equipment. Manufacturers and importers must follow these steps to use the A/C-Tick mark:

1. Perform technical standard tests according to ACAQ requirements.

2. Register the use of A/C-Tick with the ACA.

3. Fill in the Declaration of Conformity Formand retain it along with the product compliance records.

4. Affix a label bearing the A/C-Tick mark on the communication product or equipment.

5. Sell the product to consumers.

Note:A-Tick only applies to telecommunication products, while most electronic products require C-Tick. However, if an electronic product has been granted A-Tick, it does not need a separate C-Tick.

Since November 2001, the EMI certification processes for Australia and New Zealand have been unified. To market products in both countries, the following documents must be prepared in advance for inspection by the ACA (Australia)or New Zealand Ministry of EconoMIC Development.

Importance of C-Tick Certification

C-Tick is mandatory in Australia. Most electronic products must have C-Tick certification, which acts as an official product quality endorsement. Only certified products are considered compliant and market-ready. This also helps improve product sales by building consumer trust.

C-Tick Certification Audit Items

1. Test Report– Must be issued by a NATA-accredited lab or an equivalent lab recognized by NVLAPor A2LA. If not, product sampling for testing becomes highly likely.

2. Application to Use the C-Tick Mark– Must be signed and submitted by an Australian/New Zealand company or importer.

3. Supplier’s Declaration of Conformity Form– Must be signed by an Australian/New Zealand company or importer. The responsible supplier must ensure ongoing EMI compliance for sold products.

4. Original Design Documents and Specifications– Includes circuit diagrams, block diagrams, user manuals, service manuals, etc.

5. Production Inspection Procedures– Description of quality checks during production to maintain EMI compliance.

6. Descriptions and Test Records of Any EMI-related Changes– Includes any changes affecting EMI performance and corresponding test documentation.

C-Tick Certification Product Scope

To apply for C-Tick certification, the following must be provided:

1. FULl name and detailed contact address of the manufacturer and applicant.

2. Copies of installation and user manuals intended for the end user. (Drafts are acceptable if the manuals are not yet finalized.)

3. Electrical schematics and operational principles.

4. A table of working oscillation frequencies, including signal transmission paths and corresponding frequencies.

5. Additional product features requiring explanation.

> Note:

> All documents must be submitted in English, unless otherwise specified.

> For applications covering multiple product models, documentation must be provided for each model.

> For product series applications, include a comparison of differences and similarities between the various models.

C-Tick Certification Process

1. Product sample preparation

2. Submission of product documentation

3. Application form completion

4. Contract signing

5. Initial payment

6. Testing process

7. Test report issuance

8. Final payment

C-Tick Testing Requirements

EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) compliance

Conducted emissions, click noise, magnetic field radiation, and radiated emissions

C-Tick Certification Timeline and Validity

1.        Certification Period:1–2 weeks

2.        Validity:Indefinite, as long as the product remains unchanged and the testing standards are not updated.

C-Tick Issuing Authority

1.        Certification is endorsed and submitted by the Australian importer.

2.        The Australian Communications Authority (ACA)processes the application and issues a registration number.
